During the visit, General Secretary To Lam held talks with President of the Republic of Finland Alexander Stubb and witnessed the signing ceremony of bilateral cooperation documents between Vietnam and Finland; met with Finnish Prime Minister Petteri Orpo; received the Chairman of the Communist Party of Finland; met with the First Vice President of the Finnish Parliament ; met with representatives of several prominent Finnish businesses and witnessed the signing ceremony of cooperation documents between the two countries; visited the Experience Center - Nokia's headquarters in Finland; attended a concert jointly organized by the Vietnamese Embassy in Finland and the City of Helsinki (Finland); visited Aalto University and met with Vietnamese students in Finland; received representatives of the Finland-Vietnam Friendship Association…
The working visit of General Secretary To Lam and his wife, along with the high-level Vietnamese delegation, was a resounding success, marked by notable achievements. Both sides agreed to issue a Joint Statement on establishing a Strategic Partnership between Vietnam and Finland. This Vietnam-Finland Strategic Partnership is built on 52 years of friendship and cooperation in many fields, based on mutual trust, equality, and respect, with the aim of deepening bilateral and multilateral relations for the benefit of the people of both countries.
The strategic partnership between the two countries simultaneously contributes to promoting peace, stability, and prosperity in the region and the world, based on adherence to the United Nations Charter, international law, and the principles of respect for each other's independence, sovereignty, territorial integrity, and non-interference in internal affairs.
The two sides agreed to further increase bilateral high-level visits and contacts through all channels of the Party, State, Government, National Assembly, and local authorities of Vietnam and the Finnish government, to consolidate political cooperation and enhance mutual understanding.
Both sides agreed to establish an annual strategic consultation mechanism on regional and international issues, coordinate in addressing traditional and non-traditional security challenges, and review and update cooperation activities in bilateral relations, including bilateral discussions in the fields of defense and security.
Both sides emphasized the importance of close cooperation within regional and international organizations, affirming their support for multilateralism and full respect for and adherence to international law, and the peaceful resolution of disputes based on international law.
Key areas of cooperation include: political and diplomatic cooperation; economic, trade, and investment cooperation; science and technology, innovation, and digital transformation; education and training, labor, and development; agriculture and environment, energy, infrastructure, and transportation; and people-to-people exchanges aimed at strengthening friendship and enhancing mutual understanding.
The official visit of General Secretary To Lam and his wife, along with the high-level Vietnamese delegation, to the Republic of Finland takes place at a time when the two countries are celebrating the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations (1973-2023), marking a period of sustainable cooperation and opening a new phase of cooperation towards the next 50 years. This is an important opportunity for the two countries to review the achievements of past cooperation, as well as to set major directions, renew the relationship, create momentum, and elevate the traditional friendship and multifaceted cooperation to a new level.
