On the afternoon of March 27, Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva arrived in Hanoi , beginning his state visit to Vietnam from March 27-29 at the invitation of President Luong Cuong.
Welcoming the delegation at Noi Bai International Airport were: Minister of Agriculture and Environment Do Duc Duy; Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Do Hung Viet; Vice Chairman of the Hanoi People's Committee Duong Duc Tuan; and Vietnamese Ambassador to Brazil Bui Van Nghi.

President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva was born on October 27, 1945, in Garanhuns, Pernambuco state.
From 1959 to 1965, he worked as a mechanic and lathe operator in São Paulo.
In 1966, he began participating in the trade union movement at the Villares Group in São Paulo state, a leading enterprise in Brazil's metallurgical industry.
In 1969, he was elected as an alternate member of the Executive Committee of the Metallurgical Industry Trade Union.
In 1972, he was elected First Secretary of the Metallurgical Industry Union.
In 1975, he was elected Chairman of the Metallurgical Industry Trade Union and was re-elected to the same position in 1978.
In February 1980, he founded the Brazilian Workers' Party (PT) by bringing together union members, intellectuals, politicians, representatives of social movements, including religious leaders and farmers.
That same year, he was detained for 31 days by the Brazilian military government along with several union leaders due to a strike by metallurgical workers. He served as president of the PT party from its founding until 1988.
In August 1983, he co-founded a trade union called "The Single Center for Workers - CUT."
In 1986, he was elected to the House of Representatives and joined the Constituent Assembly...
In October 2002, he was elected President of Brazil for his first term (January 2003 - January 2007) as the candidate of the Left Alliance.
In October 2006, he was elected President of Brazil for a second term (January 2007 - December 2010).
In November 2022, he was elected President of Brazil for a third term (January 2023 - January 2027).
From January 1, 2023 to the present, he has been the President of the Federative Republic of Brazil.
President Lula da Silva will be the first foreign head of state to pay a state visit to Vietnam in 2025. This will also be President Lula da Silva's second visit to Vietnam as the head of state of Brazil, following his first visit in 2008.
Vietnamese Ambassador to Brazil Bui Van Nghi said that this visit takes place in the context of the Vietnam-Brazil relationship being upgraded to a Strategic Partnership during Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh's participation in the G20 Summit in Rio de Janeiro in November 2024.
This upgrade reflects the strong, substantive, and effective development of bilateral relations, marking a significant qualitative leap forward in political and diplomatic relations between the two countries.
Brazilian Ambassador to Vietnam Marco Farani believes that President Lula's visit will highlight the complementarity between the two countries, the important role of their respective economies in key sectors such as agriculture, science and technology, and innovation, while also expanding new channels of cooperation in trade, economics, and investment.
Furthermore, the visit fostered deeper interaction in the field of people-to-people diplomacy.
This visit also marks an important step forward in bilateral relations and dialogue between the two countries.
