Top 5 highest and lowest grossing Vietnamese films in 2024

According to estimates from theaters, total ticket sales for Vietnamese films in 2024 are expected to reach over 1,700 billion VND.

Director Tran Thanh's film " Mai " held the top spot when it was released in February 2024 with 551 billion VND. It is also currently the highest-grossing Vietnamese film internationally, with over 1 million USD.

Next up is "Face Off 7: A Wish" by Ly Hai, grossing 482 billion VND. This family drama captivated audiences with its modern and emotionally rich storytelling.

Third place went to "Making Money with Ghosts" by Nhat Trung, which grossed 128 billion VND. This film marked Hoai Linh's return to the big screen alongside Tuan Tran.

Fourth is the horror film "Ma Da" directed by Nguyen Huu Hoang, starring Viet Huong. The film grossed 127 billion VND.

Coming in fifth place is "Cam ," directed by Tran Huu Tan, which grossed 96 billion VND. "Cam" is inspired by the Vietnamese folk tale of Tam Cam, with Cam as the main character, but it creatively adds many gruesome details involving generations within a family.

Meanwhile, on the other hand, the lowest-grossing film of 2024 was "Hot Girl Squad ". The film was a major box office failure, earning only 67 million VND in ticket sales.

Next up is "Fragile Flower," directed and produced by Mai Thu Huyền, mostly filmed in the US, which only grossed 430 million VND, against a budget of approximately 20 billion VND.

Coming in third is Domino: The Last Exit (596 million VND). The film stars Thuan Nguyen along with familiar actors such as Quoc Cuong, Huynh Anh Tuan, etc.

The fourth lowest-grossing film was "The Coolie Who Never Cries " by director Pham Ngoc Lan, with 744 million VND. Despite winning Best Debut Film at the Berlin Film Festival 2024 in Germany, Best Feature Film at the Jeonju International Film Festival 2024, and Best Asian Film at the Asian Film Festival - Da Nang 2024, " The Coolie Who Never Cries " struggled to reach a wide audience because it wasn't considered mainstream entertainment.

Ranked fifth in the list of lowest-grossing films of 2024 is "Tea," directed by Le Hoang. The film was released during the Lunar New Year holiday in 2024 but quickly left theaters after only four days, grossing 1.61 billion VND.
