Overview of key projects

The Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee has approved a plan to organize a competition for architectural designs for the Go Cong intersection, part of the investment component project to complete this intersection and the branch connecting from Hanoi Highway on Ring Road 3. With a total investment of VND12,441 billion, this is a group A project, expected to be implemented from 2025 to 2029.

The project is implemented in the wards of Tang Nhon Phu, Long Binh and Long Phuoc, Ho Chi Minh City. The main objective is to connect Ring Road 3 and Ring Road 2, improve operational efficiency, resolve traffic congestion and contribute to urban beautification, promoting socio -economic development for the eastern part of the city.

Scale and technical design

The project includes the construction of a new branch road approximately 5.9 km long and the Go Cong interchange. The starting point of the branch road intersects with the Station 2 interchange on Hanoi Highway and the end point is at the Go Cong interchange, where Ring Road 3 and Nguyen Xien Street intersect.

Go Cong 4-storey intersection

Go Cong traffic intersection is designed as a 4-level intersection, combined with a roundabout and a 4-lane overpass on Ring Road 3. This will be the connection point of important traffic axes including Hanoi Highway, Ring Road 3, Nguyen Xien Street and in the future Dong Nai 2 Bridge connecting Ho Chi Minh City with Dong Nai.

The planned area for construction of Go Cong intersection is the end point of the branch line and the starting point of Dong Nai 2 bridge project.

Other main categories

In addition to the main intersection, the project also includes many other important works to ensure synchronization:

  • Cross-section of the route: The section from Tram 2 intersection to Go Cong bridge is 107 m wide; the section from Go Cong bridge to Go Cong intersection is 120 m wide.
  • Overpasses: Construct overpasses at the intersection of Le Van Viet Street - D1 Street, Go Cong Canal overpass and Trau Trau Canal overpass.
  • Technical infrastructure: Synchronous investment in drainage system, technical trenches and auxiliary works along the route.

Project implementation roadmap

The project has a specific implementation roadmap through stages. Compensation and site clearance work is expected to take place from the fourth quarter of 2025 to the fourth quarter of 2026. After completing the site clearance, the project will start construction in the first quarter of 2027 and is expected to be completed and put into use in the fourth quarter of 2028.

In that context, the nearly 15 km long Ring Road 3 through Thu Duc City (old) is also being accelerated. It is expected that this section will be technically opened to traffic by the end of 2025 and officially put into operation from April 2026, creating synchronous connectivity across the entire route when component projects such as the Go Cong intersection are completed.
