At a press conference on the afternoon of December 28th, Mr. Le Truong Hien Hoa, Deputy Director of the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Tourism , stated that according to statistics for 2023, Ho Chi Minh City reached the milestone of attracting 5 million international tourists and 35 million domestic tourists. Revenue from the tourism sector by the end of the year also reached 160,000 billion VND, 22% higher than in 2019 – the period before the pandemic.
One of the factors contributing to the recovery of Ho Chi Minh City's tourism industry is the inter-sectoral and inter-regional collaboration, with various agencies participating in promotional programs. Simultaneously, the tourism sector has reviewed its tourism products to offer higher value.
"2023 was a year with many different and impressive events for the tourism industry, with the participation of cultural sectors. This helps to keep tourists in Ho Chi Minh City for longer. Ho Chi Minh City is also aiming for sustainable tourism and environmental protection in line with global trends. This is also of interest to many international travel businesses," said Mr. Le Truong Hien Hoa.
Mr. Hoa said that Ho Chi Minh City recently announced 50 tourism products. A highlight among these is the tour program to visit the national-level architectural and artistic heritage site of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Council and People's Committee headquarters, which attracted 10,000 visitors.
"The program made the biggest impression and attracted the most attention this year. It is also considered a meaningful activity demonstrating the openness of the Ho Chi Minh City government in the new development phase, affirming its desire for a strong connection with the people," Mr. Le Truong Hien Hoa shared, adding that this event is being nominated as a highlight event of the year for Ho Chi Minh City.

Regarding cultural and historical tourism, the city considers it a cornerstone, focusing on investing in major sites. Ho Chi Minh City not only develops and renovates cultural destinations but also calls on businesses to collaborate in building historical narratives at these sites. Examples include: the Saigon Commando Unit, the Ho Chi Minh City Opera House, and the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee headquarters…
In addition, the tourism industry has organized and improved the quality and scale of events, with this year's highlight being the first River Festival.

Mr. Hoa stated that this is a series of unique cultural, entertainment, and artistic activities taking place along the Saigon River. "The event evokes love for the homeland and pride among the city's residents in the millennia-old history of their ancestors on this land," the representative from the Department of Tourism added.
In addition, the city also has many other activities, most notably the series of events of the City Tourism Week 2023 with the theme "Green on every journey". These are not only recreational activities but also attract meaningful and responsible activities that are beneficial to society and the natural environment, in line with the trend of green tourism.
Regarding digital transformation in the tourism industry, the Department has deployed a 3D 360-degree map across the city, and will soon expand it to neighboring cities, so that tourists can see images of the city and the connected provinces.
