On October 16, the Ho Chi Minh City Traffic Construction Investment Project Management Board (Traffic Board) announced that the Ho Chi Minh City - Long Thanh - Dau Giay Expressway expansion project (section from An Phu intersection to Ring Road 2) is currently implementing the selection of construction contractors, supervision consultants and construction insurance.
According to the plan, the contractor selection work is expected to be completed in October 2025.

It is expected that from October 25 to 27, 2025, the Traffic Department will submit to the Department of Construction for approval a plan to divide road and waterway traffic to serve the construction.
The project will then start construction at the end of October 2025, complete construction and put into operation in December 2026.
The project to expand the Ho Chi Minh City - Long Thanh - Dau Giay expressway (from An Phu intersection to Ring Road 2) has a total length of 3.2 km, expanded from 4 lanes to 8 lanes.
The project has a total investment of 938 billion VND from the Ho Chi Minh City budget. The Ho Chi Minh City Traffic Construction Investment Project Management Board was assigned as the investor.
Currently, the road leading to the Ho Chi Minh City - Long Thanh - Dau Giay expressway often experiences traffic jams due to overload.
Statistics from the Department of Construction show that since its operation in 2016, traffic volume has continuously increased (average 11.12%/year).
The number of vehicles in circulation has exceeded the capacity of the road section leading from An Phu intersection to Ring Road 2, which is designed to reach about 50,000 CPUs/day and night by 2025 (about 50,000 vehicles/day and night - calculated according to the conversion unit using 5-seat cars as the standard).
Therefore, it is urgent to invest in expanding the road section from An Phu intersection to Ring Road 2 from 4 lanes to 8 lanes to connect to Long Thanh International Airport.
