To commemorate Vietnam Social Work Day, the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Health will officially launch a comprehensive healthcare program for individuals currently receiving care at social welfare centers.
Accordingly, the Department of Health has assigned 16 general and specialized hospitals to provide comprehensive support for healthcare activities for individuals being cared for and managed at social welfare centers, including medical examinations, treatment, and other activities related to the health sector.
Specifically, specialized hospitals such as psychiatric hospitals, rehabilitation and occupational disease treatment hospitals, obstetrics and gynecology hospitals, pediatric hospitals, and traditional medicine hospitals will proactively provide remote medical consultations, organize consultations, and develop plans for regular specialist check-ups at social welfare centers. As a result, patients will no longer have to travel to hospitals for specialist examinations as before.
In addition, district, county, and city-level general hospitals will sign comprehensive cooperation agreements with social welfare centers to improve the effectiveness of healthcare for those under their care.
The top priority is to strengthen and improve the capacity of health stations in the centers, so that they are eligible to sign contracts for medical examination and treatment with social insurance agencies under the internal medicine clinic model.
Training in on-site first aid skills and assisting in transporting emergency patients to the hospital will be handled by the 115 Emergency Center.
In addition, the Department of Health has assigned its functional departments the task of proactively guiding social welfare centers to implement professional and technical procedures correctly according to regulations.
At the same time, the relevant departments will coordinate to develop a set of quality criteria related to healthcare services at the centers, serving as a basis for evaluating achievement levels and guiding improvements in the future.
The Ho Chi Minh City Department of Health continues to coordinate with the Departments of Health of Binh Duong , Binh Phuoc, and Lam Dong provinces to implement health insurance coverage for individuals being cared for at social welfare centers in these provinces.
At the same time, the department requested that district-level health centers and general hospitals in localities continue to support the transportation and emergency care of patients when necessary.
On March 25, 2025, the Department of Health is scheduled to hold a conference to launch activities aimed at improving the quality of healthcare at social welfare centers under its management, marking the beginning of a series of activities to enhance healthcare quality at these centers.
