Ho Chi Minh City: Warning of heavy rain combined with high tides causing deep flooding in many areas

Ho Chi Minh City has experienced widespread heavy rain and rising tides, threatening to cause flooding in many areas.

In the past 24 hours, the South was cloudy with widespread showers, some places recorded moderate to heavy rain. Daytime temperatures changed little, and decreased slightly at night. The East had the highest temperature of 28.5 - 33 degrees Celsius, the lowest of 22.5 - 25.5 degrees Celsius. The West recorded the highest temperature of 29.7 - 33.7 degrees Celsius, the lowest of 23.9 - 26.6 degrees Celsius.

Ho Chi Minh City has variable and cloudy weather, with intermittent sunshine during the day. There is little rain in the evening and at night, with scattered showers and thunderstorms in the southeast, with moderate to heavy rain in some places. The highest temperature is 29.8 - 32.8 degrees Celsius, the lowest is 24 - 25.5 degrees Celsius. At Tan Son Nhat, the temperature ranges from 27 - 32 degrees Celsius. Humidity is 59 - 89 percent, and the wind changes direction 2 - 4 meters per second.

According to data at 8:00 a.m. on December 4 from the Southern Hydrometeorological Station, Ho Chi Minh City was still cloudy with widespread rain. Rainfall recorded at some stations: Tam Thon Hiep 4 mm, Ben Cat 5 mm, So Sao 4.8 mm, An Phu 6.2 mm, Nha Be 2.6 mm, Xuyen Moc 4.2 mm.

High tides pose a risk of deep flooding in low-lying areas and riverside areas.

The reason is that cold air combined with the slowly weakening convergence zone causes the South to continue to have rain. Heavy rainfall tends to decrease slightly compared to the past 24 hours. During thunderstorms, beware of strong gusts of wind, lightning and whirlwinds. During the day, there are times when clouds are less, sunny, with temperatures generally ranging from 29 to 32 degrees Celsius. High tides cause flooding in low-lying areas and along rivers.

In the coming days, the cold air will continue to strengthen, stabilize, and gradually weaken. Above, the subtropical high pressure will invade the west and remain stable, while the upper-level wind convergence zone will dissipate.

The weather in the South is changing to cloudy, sunny days. Rain has decreased sharply, only appearing locally in some places. The midday sun increases, humidity decreases, the weather is hot, with a potential risk of fire and explosion. High tides remain at high levels according to the full moon of the tenth lunar month, causing flooding in low-lying areas and along rivers.

The water level of the Saigon River continues to rise with the high tide, causing flooding on many low-lying roads such as Tran Xuan Soan, Huynh Tan Phat, and Binh Quoi.

The continental cold high pressure will remain stable until December 7-8, then weaken, and may strengthen again at the end of the period. Above, the subtropical high pressure will stabilize and move west from December 8-9.

In addition, a tropical depression east of the Philippines is likely to enter the East Sea and strengthen into a storm during December 7-9.

Ho Chi Minh City residents are advised to be on guard against thunderstorms, strong winds, and tornadoes. High tides combined with heavy rains can cause deep flooding in many areas, affecting daily life, traffic, and agricultural production.
