(Dan Tri Newspaper) - In the second semester of the 2024-2025 school year, Ho Chi Minh City will conduct a survey to assess the abilities of students in 5 grade levels.
On February 4th, the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training announced that in the second semester of the 2024-2025 school year, Ho Chi Minh City will conduct an online assessment of students' abilities across five grade levels (grades 3, 7, 8, 9, and 11), involving hundreds of thousands of students via computer.
Specifically, grades 3, 7, and 8 will be assessed on application skills; grades 9 and 11 will be assessed on foreign language skills.
This is the first time Ho Chi Minh City has expanded the student competency assessment to include grade 8 students. Previously, the assessment was only implemented for grades 3, 7, 9, and 11.

According to the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training, the survey aims to assess the results and quality of teaching and learning of teachers and students in both public and private schools in the city during the 2024-2025 school year, thereby proposing measures to promote strengths and overcome weaknesses in teaching and learning.
The survey results will serve as a basis for specialized teams to delve deeper into more effective professional activities, ensuring that end-of-year periodic tests are designed to develop students' qualities and competencies...
The survey aims to assess students' basic knowledge and their ability to apply that knowledge to real-life situations.
The results of the competency assessment are for analytical and research purposes only and should absolutely not be used for comparing, ranking, or evaluating students or teachers.
For foreign languages, the survey results also provide the city's education sector with additional data to develop a plan to make English the second language in schools, in accordance with Conclusion No. 91 of the Politburo .
Regarding the expansion of the survey to include 8th-grade students this school year, Mr. Nguyen Bao Quoc, Deputy Director of the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training, stated that 8th-grade students this year have already been assessed for their abilities in the 7th grade from the previous school year.
This year's expanded survey of 8th-grade students aims to provide statistical data to track students' learning progress in grades 7 and 8 for schools to evaluate teaching and learning according to the 2018 General Education Program, and to guide the entrance exam for 10th grade.
The survey of middle school students will be conducted after they complete their second-semester exams.
