The exam helps Ho Chi Minh City National University select candidates with competencies suitable for the training characteristics, while also contributing to improving the recruitment quality of many universities and colleges across the country.

Despite achieving many remarkable results in the 2018-2024 period, Ho Chi Minh City National University continues to innovate to improve the quality of the exam. In 2025, the unit will adjust the exam structure to meet the new approach of the 2018 General Education Program, aiming to accurately assess the university learning capacity of candidates, while ensuring fairness and access to higher education for all subjects.

According to the adjustment, the content of Part 1: Language Use and Part 2: Mathematics is kept stable, but the number of questions is increased to improve reliability and classification ability. The biggest change is the merger of the Logic - Data Analysis and Problem Solving sections into Part 3: Scientific Thinking. This section focuses on assessing the ability to logic, reason and solve real-life situations in the fields of science, technology, economics and society through a system of questions providing data, experiments or experimental results, requiring candidates to analyze, apply and predict.
