On October 3, information from Thai Phien High School, Da Nang said that nearly 700 excellent students in grades 10 and 11 of the 2022-2023 school year had received their money back.

Accordingly, the school has asked homeroom teachers to directly return the money to the students. For students currently studying at the school, they must come and sign for it in person. For students who have just graduated, homeroom teachers must contact them to receive it. For students who study far away, their parents must come and receive it on their behalf. The refund of the above amount has basically been completed.

Previously, Tuoi Tre Online reported on the incident in which Mr. Nguyen Ba Hao - principal of Thai Phien High School, Da Nang - had nearly 700 excellent students sign to receive a bonus of 200,000 VND/student, but in reality, they received 20 notebooks sold on the market for 6,000 VND/book.

In June 2024, in response to teachers' complaints, the Inspector of the Department of Education and Training of Da Nang City verified and concluded that Mr. Hao had a contract to buy notebooks for 138.4 million VND, 13,840 notebooks with a unit price of 10,000 VND/book. Mr. Hao directly decided and purchased the notebooks, without bidding through the national bidding network.

The leaders of the Da Nang Department of Education and Training concluded that the act of allowing students to sign for cash but receive notebooks was not in accordance with the payment records. Therefore, Mr. Hao was required to refund the entire amount of 138.4 million VND to the students who signed for money but received notebooks.

It is worth mentioning that Mr. Hao asked students to bring the notebooks they received as prizes from 2 years ago in their original packaging to exchange for money, making many students unable to exchange them and upset.

In addition, the conclusion of the Department Inspectorate showed that Mr. Hao had a series of other financial violations such as setting his own internal spending regulations, violating the procurement of assets, teaching equipment, and minor repairs of facilities not in accordance with bidding regulations; there were many irregularities in the implementation of revenue and expenditure related to the 60th anniversary of the school's founding...

Regarding the incident, Ms. Le Thi Bich Thuan, Director of the Department of Education and Training of Da Nang City, affirmed that the department will handle the matter quickly, with the right person and the right job, and will provide information to the press agencies to broaden public opinion.
