The dialogue between Russian President Vladimir Putin and participants of the Valdai International Discussion Club, held on November 7th in Moscow, set a record for the forum's duration, lasting over four hours.

This year's discussion took place in the evening, so after three hours of conversation, moderator Fyodor Lukyanov had to remark that "it was almost midnight," yet the Russian leader continued to receive questions.

The Russian news agency TASS has compiled some key points from Russian President Putin's speech at the plenary session of the Valdai Discussion Club, which the World and Vietnam Newspaper is pleased to present to our readers.

New World Order

The world is witnessing the formation of a completely new world order, unlike in the past, such as the Westphalia or Yalta systems.

New powers are rising. Nations are becoming increasingly aware of their interests, values, uniqueness, and identity, and are increasingly determined to pursue their goals of development and justice.

At the same time, societies face a myriad of new challenges, from exciting technological changes to catastrophic natural disasters, from irrational social divisions to massive migrations and severe economic crises.

Given the dynamics of ongoing global processes, the next two decades of human history may be even more challenging than the past 20: the threat of new regional conflicts, global pandemics, the complex and contentious ethical aspects of human-artificial intelligence interaction, and how tradition and progress can reconcile.

The world is moving not so much towards a multicentric direction, but towards a "polyphonic" direction where every voice is heard. Those who are accustomed to "solo performances" and want to do so in the future will have to familiarize themselves with a new "world symphony."

There should be no situation where the model of one country or a relatively small segment of humanity is considered universal and imposed on the entire globe.

The world needs Russia.

Neither the US nor Europe can change the fact that the world needs Russia. Moscow needs everyone to understand that pressure is futile, but Russia is always ready to negotiate if each party's legitimate interests are fully considered.

Russia also does not consider Western civilization an enemy, and Moscow's policy has never promoted "either us or them" principles or "anyone who is not with us is against us."

Furthermore, Russia is not seeking to teach anyone a lesson or "impose its way of thinking on anyone."

' Geopolitical greed'

In its pursuit of self-interest, the West has misinterpreted what it considers the outcome of the Cold War and begun to reshape the world to its liking. It is this "geopolitical greed" that is the real reason behind recent global conflicts, from the Middle East to Ukraine.

Once the US and other Western countries accept Moscow's position, the undeniable truth must be acknowledged: hegemony is unacceptable in the new world order. A new world system will emerge, suited to the challenges of the future.

However, racist ideology is deeply ingrained in the minds of many people, and this is a serious spiritual obstacle to harmonious global development, and sooner or later, the West will realize this.

Reconciliation in Ukraine

There can be no good neighborly relations between Russia and Ukraine if Kyiv is not neutral.

Russia was forced to launch a special military operation in Ukraine because the West had brought the situation in the Eastern European country to the brink of a coup. And now, there will be no possibility of good neighborly relations between Russia and Ukraine if Kyiv does not remain neutral.

This is also a key prerequisite for ensuring that Ukraine does not become a tool in the hands of others. Without this condition, it is impossible to establish the basic preconditions for the normalization of relations, which would lead to an unpredictable scenario that Russia would very much like to avoid.

Moscow argues that the border between the two sides should run along the new boundary, including areas in eastern Ukraine that joined Russia after a referendum.

Russia is also ready to negotiate peace with Ukraine, but not based on "Kyiv's ever-changing wish list," but rather on the actual situation and the agreements reached in Istanbul, Türkiye, in 2022.

Furthermore, Moscow believes that Ukraine does not need a temporary ceasefire merely to buy time for arms transfers, but rather needs to create favorable conditions for restoring relations and future cooperation for the benefit of both nations.

Relations with the United States

Russian President Putin congratulated Donald Trump on becoming the US president-elect and affirmed that he would work "with any head of state" who enjoys the trust of the American people.

What Trump has publicly said about his desire to restore relations with Russia or contribute to ending the conflict in Ukraine deserves Moscow's attention.

However, it would be difficult for Trump to propose an alliance between Moscow and Beijing, as this is unrealistic given that relations between Russia and China have reached an "unprecedented level of trust, cooperation, and friendship."

Cooperation with China and India

For China, its relationship with Russia is one of alliance and is currently at its highest point in history, based on mutual trust, something Moscow lacks in its relations with the West.

Beijing pursues a policy of absolute balance with Moscow, and cooperation between the two sides in general, and military and defense cooperation in particular, is aimed at strengthening the security of Russia and China, not at third countries.

India deserves to be included in the list of global superpowers, "with a population of one and a half billion, the fastest growth rate among all economies in the world, an ancient culture, and very good growth prospects for the future."

Russia is developing relations with India, a great nation, in every direction. In the field of security and defense, the relationship between the two countries is developing and there is a high level of trust.

BRICS Outlook

The BRICS group of leading emerging economies is the archetype of "modern, free, and non-bloc relations between nations and peoples, and a prime example of truly constructive cooperation in the new global context."

Today, even members of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) are showing interest in cooperating closely with BRICS, and it is not ruled out that in the future, other countries will also consider closer cooperation with the group.

Nevertheless, it is still too early to consider a common BRICS currency, because at that point, the economies would need to achieve greater integration and improve their quality and structure to a certain extent so that they become very similar economies.
