The exhibition features 34 young artists who are currently or have previously studied at the Painting Department of the Vietnam Fine Arts University. The 38 artworks reflect the unique aspects of Vietnamese cultural life, both familiar and novel, presented through a contemporary perspective.
The exhibition features creations by young artists, inspired by the refined elements of Japanese Ukiyo-e woodblock printing combined with the finest values of traditional Vietnamese art materials such as silk, lacquer, dó paper, and giang paper.
The exhibition aims to promote the beauty and uniqueness of traditional Vietnamese art materials to a wide audience of traditional art lovers, especially the younger generation and international tourists. It also serves as an opportunity to introduce to the public cultural products that are the culmination of the exploration of traditional artistic values through cross-national cultural dialogues.
Mr. Le Xuan Kieu, director of the Van Mieu-Quoc Tu Giam Scientific Activities Center, spoke at the event.
Speaking at the exhibition, Mr. Le Xuan Kieu, Director of the Science Activities Center of Van Mieu - Quoc Tu Giám, assessed: "Each painting at today's exhibition represents a dialogue, a dialogue between two cultures, a dialogue related to content, expression, and materials, creating a very deep connection between Vietnamese and Japanese culture. Through this, we have an opportunity to promote the values of Vietnamese culture to international friends. At the same time, it is also an opportunity to introduce the cultural values of the world within the cultural space of Van Mieu - Quoc Tu Giám."
"We were particularly moved to see so many images of the Temple of Literature - National University depicted in paintings by various artists, from the Khue Van Pavilion, architectural structures, and distinctive motifs. At the same time, we also saw some extremely special paintings related to Empress Y Lan, which were incredibly impressive and unique," Mr. Le Xuan Kieu emphasized.
Also at the exhibition, Master Nguyen The Son - the exhibition curator - said: “‘Dialogue with the Japanese Ukiyo-e woodblock print’ is the result of the tireless efforts of young artists in their journey to promote art practice, inspired by the traditional artistic and cultural values of Vietnam as well as other cultures.”
The practice of "traditional creativity" also serves as a driving force for creations bearing a personal touch, contributing to encouraging today's young generation in general, and young artists in particular, to continue learning and inheriting the essence of traditional art, thereby gaining more motivation and inspiration to nurture their passion for artistic creation.
The exhibition will take place from January 23rd to March 12th, 2024 at the Temple of Literature - National University historical site in Hanoi.
