Ms. Ha Thi Dieu, residing in Tan Thanh ward, Buon Ma Thuot city, stated that her daughter scored 15.5 points on the entrance exam for 10th grade, while the cutoff score for Buon Ma Thuot High School was 15.75 points, resulting in her daughter's failure to get admitted.
Later, she submitted her child's application to Phu Xuan Private High School, and the school accepted the application.
Phu Xuan High School in Buon Ma Thuot City, Dak Lak Province, is where hundreds of parents came to withdraw their children's and grandchildren's records.
On July 19th, after receiving notification from the Dak Lak Department of Education and Training that the supplementary admission cutoff score for public schools had been lowered to 13 points, Ms. Dieu went to Phu Xuan Private High School to withdraw her child's application. However, despite requesting the withdrawal multiple times, the school had not yet processed the request.
“Although I have gone to the school many times to withdraw my application, it has not yet been returned so I can submit it to Buon Ma Thuot High School. My family is very happy to know that my child has the opportunity to attend a public school. This will save my family a lot of trouble because attending a private school is very expensive, and our family's economic situation is not very good,” Ms. Dieu shared.
According to Mr. Tran Van Hoa, residing in Thang Loi Ward, Buon Ma Thuot City, the school's delay in allowing the withdrawal of application documents will cause his child to miss the opportunity to attend public schools. He fears that if he submits the application and all schools have already filled their quotas, he doesn't know where his child will study.
Like Ms. Dieu and Mr. Hoa, hundreds of other parents stood outside the office of the Phu Xuan High School's leadership waiting for their cases to be resolved so they could withdraw their applications.
Hundreds of parents flocked to Phu Xuan High School (Dak Lak) to withdraw their children's application files for public schools that had lowered their admission scores.
Speaking to reporters, Ms. Pham Thi Kim Thoa, Deputy Principal of Phu Xuan High School, confirmed that a large number of parents came to the school to withdraw their children's records to submit to public schools.
Ms. Thoa stated that the school has approximately 600 applications, of which 60 were withdrawn last week, leaving only about 70 applications from students who meet the eligibility requirements for public schools to be withdrawn.
“The school is facilitating the withdrawal of applications for parents. However, parents need to check if their children have been accepted into any schools. If so, please come to the school so I can compile the information for the withdrawal on the morning of July 24th, as the department in charge of applications is absent due to other unexpected work today,” said Ms. Pham Thi Kim Thoa.
To resolve the situation, a leader of Phu Xuan High School invited the parents to a meeting and announced that the withdrawal of student records would be processed the following afternoon (July 23). However, the majority of parents disagreed.
According to the leadership of Phu Xuan High School, the Department of Education and Training has announced that the enrollment procedures will be open until July 25th. In addition, for students who have already withdrawn their applications from Phu Xuan High School, the school will not accept their applications again. This afternoon (July 22nd), the school will also process applications from students who wish to withdraw their applications.
Previously, on July 19th, the Dak Lak Department of Education and Training announced a reduction in the supplementary admission cutoff score for 10th grade at Buon Ma Thuot High School and Le Quy Don High School to 13 points (the previous cutoff score for 10th grade at these two schools was 15.75 points).
According to Mr. Do Tuong Hiep, Deputy Director of the Dak Lak Department of Education and Training, these public schools have notified students on the school's enrollment registration list who have met the admission criteria to urgently complete the enrollment procedures by July 25th and report the results on July 26th.
"High schools and multi-level schools should facilitate the withdrawal of supplementary admission documents for students to complete enrollment procedures according to their preferences, ensuring their legitimate rights," said Mr. Do Tuong Hiep.
According to Mr. Do Tuong Hiep, students who score 13 points on the exam and do not receive any failing grades (1 point or less) will be admitted to the schools that are recruiting in the supplementary admissions round. The Department has already calculated enough places for all of them.
