On July 10th, the People's Procuracy of Dak Lak province issued an indictment prosecuting defendants Pham Minh Cuong (29 years old), residing in Buon Ho town, Dak Lak; Tran Vuong Trong Nghia (28 years old), residing in Cu Jut district, Dak Nong; and Nguyen Van Giap (29 years old), residing in Buon Ma Thuot city, Dak Lak, all for the crime of "Robbery"; and Truong Cong Viet (26 years old), residing in Krong Nang district, Dak Lak, for the crime of "Harboring property obtained through crime".
Four suspects at the police station.
This group of suspects has been identified as having held the wife of a district chairman hostage in Dak Lak province and robbed her of over 2.3 billion VND in mid-October 2022.
According to the indictment, Cuong, Nghia, and Giap became acquainted while serving prison sentences. After their release, the three continued to stay in contact. In September 2022, Cuong discussed and invited Nghia to join him in committing acts of property theft in Buon Ho town.
After much persuasion, Nghia agreed to participate and recruited Giap as well. After preparing the plans and tools, early in the morning of October 14, 2022, the group discussed and chose the house of Ms. LTT and Mr. VVM (Chairman of the People's Committee of a district in Dak Lak) in Thien An ward, Buon Ho town (Dak Lak) to carry out the robbery.
At approximately 7:00 AM that same day, after learning that Mr. M. had left the house, Giap and Nghia climbed over the fence and broke in, while Cuong stood guard outside. Once inside, Giap and Nghia used force to threaten and attack Mrs. T. in order to steal property worth over 2.3 billion VND.
While on the run, Cuong asked Viet to hide 394,750,000 VND and an iPhone. Although Viet knew the money was stolen property, he still hid it for Cuong.
