On the afternoon of September 16th, Hanoi Railway Transport Joint Stock Company announced that it would continue to suspend the operation of trains SP3 and SP4 until September 22nd.

By September 23rd, this company began operating trains SP3 and SP4 to serve passenger transportation.

The reason is that although the Hanoi- Lao Cai railway line was reopened on September 15th, there are still 20 points where train speeds are restricted to between 5km/h and 10km/h. Therefore, the train journey takes between 4 and 4.5 hours.

On the other hand, the number of tourists visiting Sa Pa (Lao Cai) after the storm is still low, so organizing train services is not guaranteed to be effective.

Previously, to avoid Typhoon No. 3, the railway industry temporarily suspended train services from September 7-9 on the Hanoi - Lao Cai, Hanoi - Hai Phong, Hanoi - Vinh routes and some trains on the Hanoi - Ho Chi Minh City route.

After the storm subsided, the railway lines resumed train services.

However, the Hanoi-Lao Cai railway line has 15 locations where trees have fallen and 20 points of deep flooding, especially the section through Phu Tho and Yen Bai provinces.

After the floodwaters receded, this railway line had more than 45 points of landslides and erosion of the roadbed, with some sections covered in mud and sand for more than 1km.

Following restoration efforts by railway units, the Hanoi-Lao Cai railway line was reopened at noon on September 15th, and freight trains resumed operation, although speed limits of 5-10 km/h were imposed at 20 points.

To ensure the safety of passenger train operations, Hanoi Railway Transport Joint Stock Company has continued to suspend passenger trains SP3 and SP4 until September 22nd.

According to Hanoi Railway Transport Joint Stock Company, due to low passenger demand on the Hanoi - Lao Cai route, mainly from tourists, only the SP3 and SP4 passenger trains have been operating on this route recently.
