On the afternoon of September 16, Hanoi Railway Transport Joint Stock Company announced that it would continue to stop running trains SP3 and SP4 until September 22.
On September 23, this company organized the operation of trains SP3 and SP4 to serve passenger transportation.
The reason is that on September 15, the Hanoi - Lao Cai railway line was opened but there are still 20 points where the train speed is limited from 5km/h to 10km/h. Therefore, the train journey lasts from 4 hours to 4.5 hours.
On the other hand, the number of tourists to Sa Pa (Lao Cai) after the storm is still low, so the effectiveness of organizing train operations is not guaranteed.
Previously, to avoid storm No. 3, the railway industry temporarily stopped running trains from September 7 on the Hanoi - Lao Cai, Hanoi - Hai Phong, Hanoi - Vinh routes and some trains on the Hanoi - Ho Chi Minh City route.
After the storm passed, the above railway lines restored train operations.
However, the Hanoi - Lao Cai railway has 15 locations with fallen trees and 20 deeply flooded spots, especially the section through Phu Tho and Yen Bai.
After the flood receded, this railway line had more than 45 landslides and roadbed erosion, with some sections covered with mud and sand for more than 1km.
After the restoration efforts of railway units, at noon on September 15, the Hanoi - Lao Cai railway line was reopened, freight trains resumed operation, although there were 20 points where the speed had to be limited to 5-10km/h.
To ensure the safety of passenger trains, Hanoi Railway Transport Joint Stock Company has continued to suspend passenger trains SP3 and SP4 until September 22.
According to Hanoi Railway Transport Joint Stock Company, due to low passenger demand on the Hanoi - Lao Cai train route, mainly tourists, recently only two passenger trains SP3 and SP4 have been running on this route.
