On the afternoon of April 6th, at the regular government press conference, a reporter from Dan Tri newspaper asked: Currently, many advertisements by singers, actors, and models appear on social media that are obviously untrue, particularly for weight loss products or skin creams…
The recent incident involving false advertising of Kera vegetable candy by the Hang Du Muc group, Quang Linh Vlogs, and Miss Thuy Tien has also occurred. We request that the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism provide information on any mechanisms or proposals to more strictly control and manage the advertising content created by socially influential individuals.
In response to this question, the Permanent Deputy Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism , Le Hai Binh, stated that with the development of social media, it is common and a very popular trend for celebrities, singers, and artists to advertise and market themselves on social media.
According to Mr. Binh, in order to regulate these advertising activities, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and related ministries and agencies have implemented many measures to inspect, monitor, and address the shortcomings and limitations of this phenomenon.
In June 2021, the Minister of Information and Communications issued a Code of Conduct on social media, and in December 2021, the Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism issued a Code of Conduct for those participating in artistic activities on social media.
The Permanent Deputy Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism stated that, given the increasing number of new issues in practice, the Ministry is currently in the process of amending the Advertising Law. The drafting agency has received many insightful and practical contributions, and plans to add several very specific provisions related to celebrities and artists participating in advertising.
"First and foremost, every individual participating in social media advertising must be held accountable under the law in general and the Advertising Law in particular for the products they advertise. In addition, they must be responsible for verifying the authenticity of the products they advertise," Mr. Binh said.
According to the Permanent Deputy Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism, the decree implementing the amended Advertising Law will contain very specific provisions to regulate the activities of celebrities and artists participating in advertising, including increased penalties, bans on advertising for violations, and even restrictions on artistic activities or appearances on media and social networks...
State management in this field has been in place for a long time and has been implemented very specifically. Mr. Binh affirmed that in the coming time, measures will continue to be implemented to better manage this issue.
"The question from the Dan Tri newspaper reporter is very interesting: 'Those advertisements are obviously untrue just by listening to them.' I hope Dan Tri newspaper and other media outlets will work together to raise public awareness, so that everyone who sees an advertisement can tell whether it's real or fake."
"In addition, it contributes to raising awareness among celebrities, famous singers, and actors when participating in advertising, so that they understand that advertising can easily jeopardize their reputation and public affection, which are very difficult to build," the Permanent Deputy Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism stated.
