"Recruiting nurses, asked how many degrees to inject but couldn't answer"

(Dan Tri) - Delegate To Thi Bich Chau expressed concern about the quality of health training at non-specialized universities, citing the fact that some newly graduated medical staff do not have a firm grasp of basic techniques.

On the morning of December 3, discussing the implementation of the National Assembly's resolutions on thematic supervision and questioning, delegate To Thi Bich Chau (HCMC) frankly raised the issue of university training quality management, especially in the health sector, and requested the Ministry of Education and Training (MOET) to have a satisfactory answer.

Nursing school non-specialized "huge difference"

Delegate To Thi Bich Chau said that the report of the education sector has not fully reflected the content of supervision and has not adequately answered the management of the health training sector, although Resolution 41 clearly stated the completion of the autonomy mechanism and strengthened management of opening health training sectors.

Ms. Chau emphasized that there is still debate about whether to assign the health training code to the Ministry of Health or the Ministry of Education and Training to continue managing, especially for schools that do not specialize in medicine and pharmacy.

"I propose to improve the quality of management, inspection and supervision of this work of the education sector in recent years," said Ms. Chau.

As a member of the local Health Officer Recruitment Council, delegate To Thi Bich Chau had the opportunity to meet and assess the expertise of newly graduated health officers. She affirmed that the quality gap is "very large".

"The difference between nurses trained at other schools and nurses trained at the University of Medicine and Pharmacy is huge," Ms. Chau stated the reality.

She cited a specific example of weakness in basic knowledge and skills: "Even a simple question I asked, if I were to inject a patient now, how many degrees should the injection technique be tilted, I could not answer."

According to delegate To Thi Bich Chau, this is a reality that really worries the health sector and she requested that the Ministry of Education and Training have a clear answer in the report on training quality management.

Suggest adding "encouraging teachers" to "encouraging learning"

In addition to the issue of training quality in the health sector, delegate To Thi Bich Chau also mentioned other educational work. She acknowledged the progress of the education sector, especially in the quality of student education, but pointed out the lack of coordination between the Ministry of Education and Training, the Departments of Education and Training and the local Associations for Promoting Education.

"I suggest that the Ministry of Education and Training strengthen coordination with the Vietnam Association for Promoting Education and the Associations for Promoting Education of provinces and cities," Ms. Chau suggested.

Notably, delegate To Thi Bich Chau proposed adding one more subject to the current activities of promoting learning and talent, which is promoting teachers.

"Especially for teachers in remote areas who need to study to improve their qualifications, but the Association for the Promotion of Education has not reached this group," Ms. Chau analyzed.

Teachers in remote areas who want to improve their qualifications often do not have the funds, while the Association for the Promotion of Education has long been used to supporting students, or supporting teachers with tools such as laptops and internet.

"It is necessary to coordinate with the Association for Promotion of Education to support funding and equipment for teachers to improve their qualifications on-site, because there are currently many online training classes," Ms. Chau emphasized.

She concluded that the education sector needs to have a joint agreement with the Association for the Promotion of Education to support not only the promotion of education and talents, but especially the promotion of teachers, and to pay attention to teachers in disadvantaged areas.
