To effectively implement the National Target Program for building new rural areas, Quang Yen town has focused on leading, directing, and mobilizing people and businesses in the area to promote the application of modern science and technology in agricultural production.
The family of Mr. Dong Quang Cuong (Cam La commune, Quang Yen town) is one of the leading households applying science and technology to production and livestock farming processes, generating high income.
From a small-scale, fragmented duck farming household, in 2016, when the New Rural Development Program was actively promoted by the local government, Mr. Cuong's family boldly borrowed capital to invest in two enclosed duck farms covering 2,000m² to develop duck farming. In 2022, he continued to invest nearly 5 billion VND to expand his duck farm with two modern, enclosed "cold houses," the largest in Quang Yen town.
To date, after many years of dedication to duck farming, Mr. Cuong's family has amassed a valuable asset: a farm spanning over 3 hectares with a modern, closed-loop, environmentally friendly system of automatic egg incubators and breeding pens, applying advanced science and technology. Each month, the farm supplies approximately 120,000 eggs and 2 tons of commercial duck meat to the market, providing stable employment for nearly 10 local workers. Notably, utilizing the manure from duck farming, in early October 2023, Mr. Cuong's family allocated 500 square meters of land in their garden to develop an earthworm farming model. Currently, the earthworms are adapting and thriving, opening up a new avenue and generating additional income for the family.
The central road of Hiep Hoa commune (Quang Yen town) has been renovated and upgraded thanks to the joint efforts and contributions of the local people.
Mr. Cuong's family model is just one of many models applying modern, environmentally friendly science and technology to production and livestock farming processes, generating high incomes in Quang Yen town in recent years. This has laid the foundation for the town to soon achieve its goal of building advanced new rural areas.
Mr. Nguyen Trong Ba, Deputy Head of the Economic Department of Quang Yen Town, said: Identifying the development of modern agriculture linked with the construction of new rural areas as two important tasks, in recent years Quang Yen Town has focused on effectively leveraging local advantages to develop concentrated agricultural production areas; encouraging people to apply scientific and technological advancements to production to create goods with large volumes and high economic value.
Quang Yen also focuses on improving the quality and branding of agricultural products. To date, the town has established hundreds of hectares of production according to VietGAP standards, with 37 products recognized as OCOP products at the provincial level; of which 9 products are regularly sold through e-commerce platforms such as shopee.vn, tiki.vn, lazada.vn, tiktok shop, etc.
Thanks to decisive, flexible, and appropriate leadership and guidance, the agricultural sector of Quang Yen town has made positive progress and achieved many remarkable results in recent years.
Notably, in 2024, despite Typhoon No. 3 ( Yagi ) causing significant damage to the agricultural sector, thanks to proactive implementation of production plans and disease prevention plans, the agricultural production value of the town for the whole year still reached 2,256 billion VND, achieving 93.1% of the plan, a decrease of 8.7% compared to 2023.
Rapid and sustainable agricultural development following a green growth model, ensuring ecological balance, has laid the foundation for the comprehensive development of rural areas in Quang Yen town, contributing to the early completion of criteria for building new rural areas and creating increasingly prosperous, beautiful, and civilized rural regions.
