In the match against U.17 Yemen, U.17 Vietnam lost an early player when a player received a red card after a foul right in front of the penalty area. The West Asian team took control of the ball in the following minutes, while U.17 Vietnam was forced to retreat to their own half to play defensive counter-attacks.
Despite not having much ball, coach Hoang Anh Tuan's players always knew how to create highlights with sharp attacks. Cong Phuong was one of the most active players in the midfield. There were a few situations created but U.17 Vietnam failed to take advantage of them. Near the end of the first half, after a fast attack, U.17 Yemen scored the opening goal.

In the second half, coach Hoang Anh Tuan made a series of changes and U.17 Vietnam played very coherently, controlled the game and created many attacks. However, Cong Phuong and his teammates could not score an equalizer. After that, U.17 Vietnam conceded another goal after an attack by U.17 Yemen.
Losing 0-2 to their opponents, the coaching staff admitted that U.17 Vietnam still has some points to improve before entering the tournament. However, the determination and good execution of the proposed tactical plan are also plus points that bring positivity to the young players.
Coach Hoang Anh Tuan said: "In this match, the two teams changed many players to serve professional work, so they could not show anything. The coaching staff created conditions for all the players to enter the field in a practice match like this so that they could gain more experience. Of course, having to concede goals against a team with a physical condition not better than U17 Vietnam also requires more reasonable adjustments. I also added that yesterday, the players practiced hard, one could say very hard, so it can be understood that in the match with U.17 Yemen, they could not show much. We are preparing for a tournament, not this match. Therefore, in the next week, the coaching staff will make adjustments to prepare for the tournament in the best way."
U.17 Vietnam still hasn't had the best performance against U.17 Yemen because they just finished heavy training.
As planned, on the morning of June 14, U.17 Vietnam will board a flight to Thailand to attend the 2023 AFC U-17 Championship, which will take place in Thailand from June 15 to July 2. According to the draw results, U.17 Vietnam is in Group D with Japan, India, and Uzbekistan. At this year's finals, the teams will compete in a single round-robin tournament.
