According to VNA correspondent in Buenos Aires, on May 20, the final round of the U20 World Cup officially kicked off the 23-day competition with a brief opening ceremony that fully reflected the passion of the people of the Land of Tango for the king of sports .

The opening ceremony will be held at 5:00 p.m. (local time) at Madre de Ciudades Stadium, in the city of Santiago del Estero in northern Argentina, nearly 1,000 km from the capital Buenos Aires.

The ceremony featured traditional Argentine cultural performances, including Tango and other folk dances, along with a parade of national flags from the 24 competing teams.

Tens of thousands of spectators in the stadium also joined in the elaborate performance of a group of male and female dancers in contrasting black and white costumes that were extremely impressive.

Famous singer Patricia Sosa sang the Argentine national anthem in front of a large audience at the stadium inaugurated in 2021.

Immediately after the opening ceremony, the host Argentina played against the representative from Asia - U20 Uzbekistan. The match ended the opening event perfectly with a 2-1 victory belonging to the younger generation of famous player Lionel Messi.

There are a total of 24 teams participating in the 2023 U20 World Cup Finals, divided into 6 groups. The top two teams in each group and the 4 third-placed teams with the best results will advance to the round of 16.

Initially, the 2023 U20 World Cup Finals were scheduled to be held in Indonesia, but at the last minute, non-professional reasons forced the World Football Federation (FIFA) to strip the Southeast Asian country of hosting rights and give them to Argentina.

The 2023 U20 World Cup finals will take place from May 20 to June 11 in four cities: Santiado del Estero, San Juan, Mendoza and la Plata./.
