Thailand U22 coach declares he will beat all opponents at SEA Games 33
U22 Thailand will have their opening match against U22 Timor Leste at 7pm tomorrow (December 3). Before entering the tournament at home as a strong candidate for the championship, coach Thawatchai Damrong-Ongtrakul of U22 Thailand expressed his confidence.
The coach of the young Thai team said: “The Thai U22 team has been preparing for the SEA Games for many months, from training sessions, the Southeast Asian U23 Championship in Indonesia, to the 2026 Asian U23 qualifiers at home. After that, we played friendly matches with U22 China and U22 India recently.”
“These are important matches and tournaments, helping U22 Thailand select the squad for the SEA Games. We also face a number of injuries, but I have prepared backup plans. U22 Thailand is ready for the Southeast Asian Games and ready for the opening match against U22 Timor Leste,” coach Thawatchai added.
At this SEA Games, U22 Thailand is in Group A with U22 Timor Leste and Singapore. This is a relatively easy group. Timor Leste football has never been rated on par with Thai football. Meanwhile, Singapore youth football has significantly weakened over the years.
Coach Thawatchai Damrong-Ongtrakul emphasized that his team is ready to conquer the gold medal (HCV) in men's football at this year's SEA Games.
Mr. Thawatchai Damrong-Ongtrakul shared: “To compete for the SEA Games championship, we will have to play 4 matches (two group stage matches, semi-final and final). Rotation of the squad is very important. First, we want to win the two group stage matches, then win the semi-final and final matches.”
“We want to regain glory in the SEA Games arena, regain glory in the Southeast Asian region. To achieve that goal, I want fans to come to the stadium in large numbers to cheer for us. U22 Thailand will make sure to do our best to satisfy the fans with our performance,” said the head coach of the U22 Thailand team.
Notably, in the group stage of the men's football at the 33rd SEA Games, U22 Thailand and U22 Vietnam will compete at the same Rajamangala Stadium in Bangkok. On each match day of each team, U22 Vietnam will play in the afternoon (against Laos and Malaysia on December 3 and 11), while U22 Thailand will play in the evening (against Timor Leste and Singapore on December 3 and 11).
