Thailand U22 coach declares he will defeat all opponents at SEA Games 33.
Thailand U22 will play their opening match against Timor Leste U22 at 7 PM tomorrow (December 3rd). Before entering the tournament on home soil as a very strong contender for the championship, Thailand U22 coach Thawatchai Damrong-Ongtrakul expressed great confidence.
The head coach of the Thai youth team said: “The U22 Thai team has been preparing for the SEA Games for many months, from training camps and the Southeast Asian U23 Championship in Indonesia to the 2026 Asian U23 Championship qualifiers on home soil. After that, we played friendly matches against U22 China and U22 India recently.”
“These are important matches and tournaments, helping the U22 Thailand team select the squad for the SEA Games. We also faced some injuries, but I have prepared contingency plans. U22 Thailand is ready for the Southeast Asian Games and ready for the opening match against U22 Timor Leste,” added coach Thawatchai.
At this SEA Games, the U22 Thailand team is in Group A along with the U22 teams of Timor Leste and Singapore. This is a relatively easy group. Timor Leste football has never been considered on par with Thai football. Meanwhile, Singapore's youth football has weakened considerably in recent years.
Coach Thawatchai Damrong-Ongtrakul emphasized that his team is ready to conquer the gold medal in the men's football event at this year's SEA Games.
Mr. Thawatchai Damrong-Ongtrakul shared: “To compete for the SEA Games championship, we will have to play four matches (two group stage matches, the semi-final, and the final). Rotating the squad is very important. First, we want to win the two group stage matches, then win the semi-final and the final.”
“We want to reclaim our glory at the SEA Games, to reclaim our glory in Southeast Asia. To achieve that goal, I want a large number of fans to come to the stadium to cheer us on. The U22 Thailand team will do their utmost to please the fans with our performance,” said the head coach of the U22 Thailand team.
A notable point in the group stage of the men's football event at the 33rd SEA Games is that the U22 Thailand and U22 Vietnam teams will share the Rajamangala Stadium in Bangkok. On each matchday, U22 Vietnam will play in the afternoon (against Laos and Malaysia on December 3rd and 11th), while U22 Thailand will play in the evening (against Timor Leste and Singapore on December 3rd and 11th).
