Russia says it destroyed Ukrainian speedboats

TASS news agency quoted a statement from the Russian Defense Ministry on the same day saying that a Russian Su-30SM fighter jet had shot down a Ukrainian unmanned reconnaissance boat near oil rigs in the Black Sea. CNN quoted a Ukrainian navy spokesman as denying Russia's claim about the incident near Snake Island. "There was no such incident in the Ukrainian navy. There were no casualties among the navy personnel," the spokesman said.

Snake Island was taken over by Russia shortly after hostilities broke out in February 2022. In June of that year, Russia announced its withdrawal from the island, calling it a gesture of goodwill for the Black Sea grain deal between the two sides.
