On the afternoon of September 20, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh received Director General of the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) Gerd Muller. The Prime Minister highly appreciated the efforts of UNIDO and the Director General himself in supporting Vietnam in implementing three strategic breakthroughs in infrastructure, human resources and institutions, and building a socialist-oriented market economy .

Emphasizing Vietnam's determination to build a strong industry, sustainable ecological agriculture , and synchronous and effective service sectors, the Prime Minister asked UNIDO to support Vietnam in implementing the Industrial Development Strategy to 2025, with a vision to 2035, prioritizing the completion and implementation of industrial policies, developing low-emission and climate-resilient industries, enhancing the added value and competitiveness of Vietnam's industries to participate deeply in the global sustainable supply chain, focusing on the fields of processing, manufacturing, innovation, green growth, etc. with specific, focused and key cooperation programs and projects.

The UNIDO Director General said that Vietnam is the most successful development model, an important partner of UNIDO with many cooperation programs; affirmed that he will focus on supporting Vietnam in energy saving and decarbonization of industry, developing food innovation systems and agricultural value chains, processing industries, rural industries... in line with Vietnam's major priorities as stated by the Prime Minister .

Mr. Muller said that UNIDO will work closely with Vietnam to soon approve the National Cooperation Program for the period 2023-2027 as a basis for cooperation activities between the two sides in the coming time. At the same time, he proposed that the two sides study the possibility of tripartite cooperation between Vietnam, UNIDO and a developing country so that Vietnam can share successful experiences and UNIDO will support technology transfer.

On this occasion, the Prime Minister invited Mr. Gerd Muller to visit Vietnam to promote further cooperation opportunities between the two sides, contributing to supporting Vietnam in achieving its goal of becoming an upper-middle-income country with modern industry by 2030 and a high-income developed country by 2045.
