Long Thanh Commune "takes off" with the super airport

This is the only locality in the country that has Long Thanh International Airport - a national mega-airport, one of the largest airports in Southeast Asia.

"Key" commune

Based on Government Decree No. 379/DA-CP dated May 9, 2025, on the reorganization of commune-level administrative units in Dong Nai province in 2025, on June 16, 2025, the Standing Committee of the National Assembly adopted Resolution No. 1662/NQ-UBTVQH15 on the reorganization of commune-level administrative units in Dong Nai province in 2025. Long Thanh commune was established by merging the entire area and population of Long Thanh town and three communes: Loc An, Binh Son, and Long An , with an area of approximately 130 km² and a population of over 86,600 people.

Chairman of Long Thanh Commune People's Committee, Le Hoang Son, shared that the locality currently has the highest concentration of large-scale projects in the province, including key strategic projects such as: Long Thanh Airport, Bien Hoa - Vung Tau Expressway, high-speed railway, and connecting transportation systems such as: Road 769, Le Duan, Bui Thi Xuan, Ton Duc Thang... In particular, the commune is being considered for the implementation of several pilot commercial housing projects according to Resolution No. 171/2024/QH15 of the National Assembly , and the implementation of the Free Trade Zone Project. Therefore, the workload for Long Thanh commune is very large, especially in the areas of land acquisition, compensation, resettlement, site clearance, and preparing clean land to attract investment.

The implementation of projects inevitably encounters difficulties, obstacles, and inadequacies regarding regulations. Therefore, the People's Committee of the commune requests continued close attention and guidance from the Provincial Party Committee, the Provincial People's Committee, and relevant departments and agencies, especially in institutional guidance and resource allocation.

One of the most pressing tasks today is to organize and operate the new government apparatus in a stable, synchronized, and efficient manner. In particular, the arrangement and allocation of personnel, facilities, and office space, especially the Commune Public Administrative Service Center, is given top priority.

"We use people's satisfaction as a benchmark, promoting the application of technology, ensuring transparency in processes, and providing dedicated service. The commune's Public Administrative Service Center must be a place where people clearly feel the companionship and closeness of the government," Mr. Le Hoang Son emphasized.

Expected to become the nucleus of the airport city.

With its unique location and strategic role, Long Thanh commune is being developed into a modern satellite city, a commercial, service, and logistics center directly serving Long Thanh Airport.

In Long Thanh commune, the Long Thanh Airport Project has a planned area of over 5,000 hectares, a total investment of approximately 16 billion USD, and a capacity of up to 100 million passengers per year and 5 million tons of cargo after 2050. This will be a major aviation hub for the region, playing a crucial role in connecting international and domestic air travel, opening up opportunities for breakthrough development in the Southern key economic region.

Alongside the airport, another large-scale project being prepared for implementation is the Dong Nai Free Trade Zone, integrating functions such as high-tech industrial production, logistics, financial services, trade, and innovation.

At a workshop held on June 27th, Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Vo Tan Duc stated that this free trade zone will connect with the Cai Mep Ha Free Trade Zone (Ho Chi Minh City) to form a super inter-regional free trade zone, with superior policies and mechanisms to enhance international competitiveness.

With specific policies and mechanisms being proposed for approval by the Central Government, the Dong Nai Free Trade Zone is expected to become a center for high-tech industries, logistics, innovation, and international finance. To realize this project, the role of the Long Thanh commune government is indispensable.

Besides major projects, the commune also focuses on investing in the comprehensive development of essential infrastructure such as housing, schools, medical facilities, cultural centers, water supply and drainage, and commercial services, all in a modern and sustainable manner. Emphasis is placed on state management in the fields of land, construction, and environment. Urban development, ecological agriculture, and service plans are reviewed to align with the overall development direction of the new commune and the entire province.

The formation of Long Thanh commune is not a merger of four administrative units, but a comprehensive restructuring of organization, apparatus, and development space. The task is not limited to reorganizing the government, but aims to create a region of sufficient stature to "take off" alongside Long Thanh Airport.

With its political and administrative foundation, the synergy of national mega-projects, and the development orientation from the province, Long Thanh commune is poised for a breakthrough. It is believed that in the not-too-distant future, this area will become the development hub of a modern, dynamic airport city, deeply integrated into the global economic chain.
