In recent years, farmers in Vu Quang commune have boldly changed their production thinking, no longer depending on traditional ineffective crops and livestock. With timely support from the local Party Committee and government in capital, technology and market connection, people have proactively invested, applied scientific and technical advances, effectively exploited the advantages of land and mountainous climate, gradually forming areas of high economic value commodity production.
Up to now, in Vu Quang commune, there are 531 economic models with income of over 100 million VND/year. These models are not only diverse in type but also show outstanding economic efficiency, becoming the mainstay to help many households become rich legitimately.
Typical models include: Mr. Doan Quoc Hoai (village 1) with a comprehensive model; orange growing by Mr. Doan Quoc Bao (village 1); livestock and fruit tree growing by Mr. Phan Van Truong (village 1); large-scale sow and commercial pig raising by Ms. Ngo Thi Thanh (village 3); growing purple Morinda officinalis medicinal herbs with high economic efficiency by Mr. Phan Dang Vuong (village 3)... with a stable income from 200 million VND to 700 million VND, creating jobs for many local workers.
Sharing his experience in getting rich, Mr. Doan Quoc Bao - owner of an organic orange growing model with an area of over 5 hectares said: “Success does not come naturally, the important thing is to be determined to change and dare to think and dare to do. Previously, my family also encountered difficulties when growing traditional trees. After receiving technical support and quality seed sources from the government, I boldly borrowed capital to invest in growing oranges according to organic ecological processes. Thanks to strict care, the quality of oranges has improved significantly, and the consumption market is stable. The orange model has helped my family earn over 700 million VND/year and also created jobs for many workers.”
As a mountainous border commune with a total natural area of over 533 km 2 , Vu Quang possesses abundant land resources, especially great potential from the hill and forest area. Therefore, the locality has identified the hill garden economy as a core strength, acting as a "lever" to promote economic development, eliminate hunger and reduce poverty and create sustainable livelihoods for the people. The transformation of the production structure from small-scale farming economy to farm and family economy is considered a key direction, effectively exploiting the advantages of land and climate specific to mountainous areas.
In particular, thanks to the good absorption and effective implementation of timely support policies from the locality, from preferential capital, technology transfer, to support for high-quality plant and animal varieties, Vu Quang farmers have had more resources and strong motivation to invest. This companionship not only helps them minimize risks but also improves production capacity, thereby creating momentum for hill garden economic models to develop rapidly in scale and efficiency.
“The remarkable growth in quantity and quality of economic models in the area is the clearest proof of the commune’s correct policy on agricultural restructuring. We have focused on promoting propaganda, mobilization, and supporting people in building product brands and linking value chains.
In the coming time, the commune will continue to review and replicate effective models, while orienting towards clean and sustainable production associated with eco-tourism, striving to increase the total number of models with income of over 100 million VND to an even higher number, contributing to building Vu Quang commune to become more and more developed and prosperous" - Ms. Phan Thi Thuy Hang, Head of the Economic Department of Vu Quang commune emphasized.
