During the Lunar New Year holiday of the Year of the Snake (2015), more than 2,000 engineers and workers temporarily set aside their personal joys and diligently worked on the horizontal and vertical expressways in the Mekong Delta.
"I won't be home this spring."
During the Lunar New Year holiday of the Year of the Snake (2015), dozens of workers were still diligently working on package XL02 of component project 3 of the Chau Doc - Can Tho - Soc Trang expressway.
Construction workers are installing bridge girders for Hau Giang 3 bridge, part of component 3 of the Chau Doc - Can Tho - Soc Trang expressway project.
Worker Doan Van Huynh (from Dak Lak province) shared that he is used to celebrating Tet (Lunar New Year) at the construction site. He said that some years he goes home for Tet, and some years he doesn't. In total, he has gone 8 years without returning home for Tet.
"Last year I got to go home, but this year I'm giving the opportunity to other colleagues. When I told them the news, my parents were sad, and I was a little upset myself. But the project is currently very urgent, and besides, it's not just me; many other colleagues are staying behind, so we encourage each other to work together. My family understands and encourages me. If I can't go home this year, I'll make up for it next year," Huynh confided.
Mr. Tran Trung Nghia, Deputy Director of the Executive Board of Trung Nam Construction and Installation Joint Stock Company (Trung Nam E&C), said that Trung Nam E&C is undertaking the construction of package number 2 of the project.
Workers and engineers remained at the construction site, diligently working during the Lunar New Year holiday.
"We are currently installing girders for four major bridges under this contract. This Tet holiday, we plan to continue construction on these four bridges throughout the holiday to ensure the girder installation is completed on schedule."
"As for the main route, we've deployed about 10 construction teams to carry out the earthmoving and sand clearing work during the Tet holiday," Mr. Nghia said.
According to Mr. Nghia, the contractor has faced many difficulties in the search for sand mines in the past. However, thanks to the assistance of the investor, as well as the Ben Tre Provincial People's Committee and the Government, two sand mines have now been identified and exploitation has begun. It is hoped that in 2025, the project will accelerate the progress of the main route, making up for the time lost.
Put all efforts into accelerating progress.

Similarly, on the North-South Expressway Eastern section (2021-2025), specifically the Can Tho - Ca Mau segment, more than 2,000 personnel are still "stuck" at the construction site.
Their Lunar New Year was just like any other ordinary day; there were no sticky rice cakes, no apricot or peach blossoms, only the rhythmic sound of trucks rolling along the roads, welding, pouring foundations, installing beams, and pouring concrete for the bridges their contractor was responsible for.
These days, the workers' joy comes from the familiar road roller, steadily compacting the roadbed on the main route.
"To meet the project's tight deadline, the contractor continued construction throughout the Lunar New Year holiday, carrying out tasks such as road embankment, compaction, and earthworks..."
"For our workers who are working on the construction site and participating in the Tet holiday, the company is showing its care and support. In addition to the regulations, the company leadership is also showing concern by providing financial assistance to the workers," shared Mr. Phan Van Tuan, Project Manager of VNCN E&C Investment and Construction Joint Stock Company.
Workers are constructing the bridge deck at the IC4 interchange, part of the Can Tho-Hau Giang component project.
According to the site manager, in order to meet the project completion deadline of December 31st, VNCN is highly determined to mobilize all machinery and personnel after the Lunar New Year, working overtime and shifts, braving the sun and rain as directed by the Prime Minister to bring the project to completion on schedule.
Mr. Tran Van Thi, Director of the My Thuan Project Management Board, said that most contractors plan to continue working throughout the Lunar New Year holiday of the Year of the Snake.
Specifically, the contractors mobilized 2,881 engineers, officials, and workers, organizing 234 teams to focus on compacting the roadbed, applying surcharges, building shoulders and embankments, driving piles, installing girders, and pouring concrete for the bridge deck.
The project is divided into two sub-projects: Can Tho - Hau Giang and Hau Giang - Ca Mau. To date, the overall project construction progress has reached 58%.
The Chau Doc - Can Tho - Soc Trang expressway has a total length of over 188km, passing through four provinces and cities: An Giang, Can Tho, Hau Giang, and Soc Trang. The total investment is 44,691 billion VND.
The project is divided into four independently operating component projects. Component project 3, spanning nearly 37km through Hau Giang province, has a total investment of over 9,601 billion VND and is managed by the Hau Giang Provincial Department of Transport. To date, the project has reached over 34% of the contract value.
