1,670 billion VND to 'keep' tourists in Hoi An longer

On March 15, the Office of the People's Committee of Quang Nam province said that the Provincial People's Committee has just sent an official dispatch to the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism requesting consideration and appraisal, and submitting to the Prime Minister for approval the Project to preserve and promote the value of the world cultural heritage of Hoi An ancient town until 2030, with a vision to 2035. The total estimated cost of implementing the project is 1,670 billion VND.

The project sets specific targets for 2030 to complete the following targets: 100% of degraded ranked relics will be restored and embellished; 100% of intangible cultural heritage and valuable documentary heritage will be managed with scientific records and preserved, promoting their values; 100% of ranked relics in the protection list will have plans to manage, protect and promote their values...

There was a time when Hoi An ancient town was overloaded due to the large number of tourists visiting.

The general goal by 2030 is to build and develop Hoi An City to meet the basic criteria of a type 2 urban area and a national tourist city, with unique characteristics in terms of ecology, cultural heritage, landscape, environment, modernity, and its own identity with the ancient town of Hoi An and the World Biosphere Reserve of Cu Lao Cham as the core.

Mr. Le Tri Thanh, Chairman of Quang Nam Provincial People's Committee, said that Hoi An is a very special heritage city, both an administrative city and a "living heritage" city.

Recently, heads of state, billionaires, and tourists from all over the world often visit Hoi An when coming to Da Nang City, showing that there is a connection in tourism development between localities in the region, especially between Thua Thien-Hue, Da Nang City and Quang Nam.

Heritage tourism is an advantage of the region, so when tourists come to Da Nang City, they usually choose to go to Thua Thien-Hue and Hoi An. However, Hoi An has not created new products to "keep" tourists longer. In addition, it has not developed into neighboring areas to create more space for development, extending the length of stay of tourists.

"Currently, the province is directing the development of a tourism development plan in areas adjacent to Hoi An City. Taking Hoi An as the "core", from there spreading to other areas to retain more tourists, ensuring that tourists spend more, especially bringing more impressions to tourists when coming to Quang Nam", Mr. Thanh said.
