On the morning of December 10th, the launch event of the Youth Book Collection, part of the activities leading up to the 40th anniversary of the first issue of Thanh Nien Newspaper (January 3, 1986 - January 3, 2026), took place at the Ho Chi Minh City Book Street.
As one of the guest speakers at the event, writer Nguyen Nhat Anh expressed his enthusiasm and support for the launch of the Youth Book Collection. The author of "I See Yellow Flowers on Green Grass " believes that compiling outstanding articles and short stories from newspapers helps to prevent information from being lost, instead preserving and spreading it more effectively to a wider audience.

“This is very necessary. Issues of humanity, inspiration, life skills, compassion… have been clearly demonstrated in this book series with a diverse range of topics. To have a wider impact, I think we can bring this book collection to schools and libraries in remote areas so that readers in many localities, even those in difficult circumstances, have the opportunity to access books,” shared author Nguyen Nhat Anh.

As a reading culture ambassador for Ho Chi Minh City, author Nguyen Nhat Anh hopes to inspire and spread a love and passion for reading to everyone, especially young people. However, he believes that every parent and every teacher should also be a reading culture ambassador in their family and school. From there, the passion for reading will spread even more strongly.

The author of "I See Yellow Flowers on Green Grass" believes that parents instilling good habits in their children is a positive sign.

He gave an example: "When a young person lives in a family where they see their parents and older siblings reading, that child is also instilled with a love of reading. Having a bookshelf at home means the child can find books whenever they need them. It's not intentional, but it's very good when parents and older siblings set a good example for their younger siblings."
According to author Nguyen Nhat Anh, this trend has been underway recently, creating a positive signal. The author of " Once Upon a Time There Was a Love Story" recounted that during a recent business trip to Hanoi , he noticed many parents bringing their children to participate in the book signing and meet-and-greet event. "These parents shared that they wanted to help their children experience the atmosphere and inspire them to read through this activity. To me, this is a good trend," the author shared.

"I became a writer because I loved reading books when I was a child and dreamed of writing such wonderful works," Nguyen Nhat Anh shared during the Q&A session.

Speaking about maintaining reading habits and enhancing reading culture in the face of the challenges of scientific and technological development, writer Nguyen Nhat Anh believes that with the changing times, people's habits also change. While in the past, books were almost the only artistic medium through which people could understand the world, nowadays there are many other art forms and social media, so the time young people dedicate to books is increasingly limited. "Each family, each writer, each book publisher must accept and confront this challenge. And I think opening more bookshelves will give readers more opportunities to access books," he shared his perspective.
Author Nguyen Nhat Anh added that reading opens up a realm of imagination for young people, something that many art forms cannot achieve. Furthermore, he believes that books also contribute to shaping the moral character of readers. "When I read a book and see a bad character, I hate them; when I see a good character, I hope for a happy ending," he said.
According to the Ho Chi Minh City reading culture ambassador, this attitude of love and hate helps to cultivate moral values in readers in an invisible way, and this is very beneficial for children. Author Nguyen Nhat Anh emphasized: "Reading books helps enrich one's vocabulary and language, learn more ways of expression; from there, it helps one to love the Vietnamese language, love literature, love writing, and perhaps one day become a writer."
