On May 20th, at the Hoa Binh Theater, the High School for the Gifted (Vietnam National University Ho Chi Minh City) held its closing ceremony for the 2023-2024 school year. This was the first time the school organized a closing ceremony with the participation of all students studying at both of its campuses.
The High School for the Gifted commends three students who won first prize in the national high school student excellence competition.
According to information from the Gifted High School, in the 2023-2024 school year, out of 1,908 students, 1,880 students achieved excellent/good grades (98.51%), with no students receiving average grades.
Professor Nguyen Thi Thanh Mai, Principal of the High School for the Gifted, said that this academic year, the school had 58 students winning awards in the national high school student excellence competition, including: 3 first prizes (in mathematics, biology, and literature), 13 second prizes, 22 third prizes, and 20 consolation prizes. Among them, Nguyen Hong Anh, a 10th-grade student specializing in literature, won first prize in literature with the highest score nationwide; 5 students were selected to participate in the second round of the national high school student excellence competition to choose the team representing Vietnam in regional and international Olympic competitions.
For the national high school science and technology competitions, two student groups from the school also brought home one second prize and one third prize. For the city-level excellent student competitions, the school's students won 44 awards, including 8 second prizes and 36 third prizes…
The principal of the High School for the Gifted also stated that during the recent early university admissions period, more than 20 students from the school received full scholarships and over 100 students received partial scholarships from universities around the world , with the total value of scholarships estimated at over 100 billion VND. The High School for the Gifted is also the only specialized high school in the country currently transitioning to an autonomous operating model.
According to the leaders of the High School for the Gifted, the upcoming 2024-2025 school year will be a year of promoting digital transformation in teaching and learning activities. It will begin with digital lectures using blended learning methods (an intelligent combination of in-person and online learning), and online courses that convert university credits from member universities of the Vietnam National University Ho Chi Minh City for students of the High School for the Gifted. Students will have a more flexible timetable as they can freely choose subjects in accordance with the regulations of the Ministry of Education and Training.
