The Southern Institute of Ecology (under the Institute of Applied Materials Science ) has just reported the results of its research on the silver-backed chevrolet using camera traps at the Long Song - Da Bac Protective Forest Management Board (Tuy Phong).
As a result, no endemic, endangered, or rare silver-backed chevrolet species has been recorded in the Long Song - Da Bac Forest Protection Area. Twenty-four other bird and mammal species have been recorded, including endangered and rare species such as the black-footed langur (Pygathrix nigripes), the Javan pangolin (Manis javanica), the peacock (Pavo muticus), the mountain goat (Capricornis sumatraensis), and the pig-tailed macaque (Macaca leonina)…
Civet (Paradoxurus hermaphroditus)
According to the Southern Institute of Ecology, the Long Song - Da Bac Forest Protection Area in particular, and Binh Thuan province in general, possesses rich and unique biodiversity resources with potential for ecotourism. Therefore, it is necessary to strengthen forest patrol and protection activities and develop a plan for regular biodiversity monitoring to promptly assess and update the current status and changes in biodiversity, providing information for conservation and sustainable development.
Previously, the Southern Institute of Ecology closely coordinated with the Long Song - Da Bac Forest Protection Management Board to carry out field activities installing camera traps to collect data in the forest area managed by the Long Song - Da Bac Forest Protection Management Board from March to May 2022.
Data extracted from the camera traps after retrieval were inventoried, identified, and analyzed using modern statistical methods. To ensure representativeness, the camera trap points were set up in a grid pattern in the field within the deciduous forest habitat.
The camera traps were spaced approximately 500 m apart. Each trap had one camera trap installed. The traps were securely attached to tree trunks at a height of 20-40 cm above the ground to maximize the detection of the study's target species. A total of 36 camera traps were installed.
