Sharing with the press at the regular September press conference of the Ministry of Science and Technology, Mr. Ho Duc Thang, Director of the National Institute of Digital Technology and Digital Transformation, Ministry of Science and Technology (MOST), said that Artificial Intelligence is identified as one of the strategic technologies and the important task is to be popularized to the whole population and comprehensively.

According to Mr. Ho Duc Thang, when bringing AI into education , especially from primary level based on the Prime Minister's direction, we need a clear and practical action plan.

First , it is necessary to set goals that are both attainable and focused. The goal is not to train "little AI engineers", but to equip children with the three core competencies of global citizens: Understanding what AI is; knowing how to use AI safely and responsibly; and having creative thinking when interacting with technology.

Second, build a "safety fence" to protect children. This is a prerequisite, because education is a particularly sensitive field, requiring maximum caution. Students are not free to use AI-generated tools, such as ChatGPT. All activities must take place through the school account and under the direct guidance of teachers. In addition, there must be a censorship list that carefully evaluates content, protects student data and is age-appropriate.

Third, instead of focusing on students, we need to focus on teachers. Technology cannot replace teachers. Therefore, the most urgent task is to develop the teaching staff.

Mr. Ho Duc Thang also shared some experiences from countries around the world. For example, in Singapore, this country has implemented AI in schools in the form of helping children understand safety and responsibility with AI. Or in Estonia, they prioritize AI training for teachers first.

The representative of the Ministry of Science and Technology also said that before introducing AI into school education, it is necessary to fully build infrastructure, otherwise it will cause inequality between regions.

“We need to start with a clear pilot roadmap for 18-24 months. Instead of mass deployment, we will take steady steps: carefully prepare learning materials and train teachers, then pilot in some localities, and then expand nationwide based on actual results,” said Mr. Ho Duc Thang - Director of the National Institute of Digital Technology and Digital Transformation.

Previously, on September 16, at the National Conference to disseminate and implement four new resolutions of the Politburo, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh said that artificial intelligence must be brought into schools.

According to the Prime Minister, it is necessary to introduce artificial intelligence into teaching in general schools, starting from primary school with the spirit of "learning while playing". " This is a very important innovation ", the Prime Minister emphasized.
