450 athletes compete at the 2024 Quang Tri Provincial Cycling Race "Peaceful Destination"

This morning, June 30th, in Quang Tri town, Quang Tri province, in coordination with Thanh Nien Newspaper, held the opening ceremony of the 2024 Quang Tri Provincial Cycling Race "Destination for Peace ". Attending the ceremony were the Vice Chairman of the Quang Tri Provincial People's Committee and Head of the Organizing Committee for the 2024 Peace Festival, Hoang Nam; the Director of the Department of Physical Education and Sports, Dang Ha Viet; the Director of the Quang Tri Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism and Head of the Organizing Committee for the Peace Cycling Festival, Le Minh Tuan; and the Editor-in-Chief of Thanh Nien Newspaper, Nguyen Ngoc Toan.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, Mr. Le Minh Tuan, Director of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Quang Tri province and Head of the Organizing Committee of the Cycling for Peace Festival, said that the 2024 Quang Tri Provincial Cycling Race "Destination for Peace" is an activity within the Cycling for Peace Festival, part of the 2024 Festival for Peace Program. This activity also has significance in commemorating the 50th anniversary of the liberation of Southern Vietnam and the reunification of the country on April 30th (1975 - 2025). The cycling race, with its message "Destination for Peace," carries many expectations. Besides encouraging the growing cycling movement in Quang Tri in particular and the whole country in general, this event also honors the value of peace and introduces and promotes the image, culture, land, and people of Quang Tri to friends both domestically and internationally.

To ensure the event is successfully organized, befitting its status and significance, the Director of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Quang Tri province, and Head of the Organizing Committee of the Cycling for Peace Day, Le Minh Tuan, requested that all members of the Organizing Committee, the referees, team leaders, and coaches thoroughly understand and strictly implement the objectives, requirements, regulations, and assigned tasks, upholding their responsibilities and making every effort to fulfill their duties in directing and organizing the race safely, fairly, objectively, accurately, and in accordance with the law. He also requested that the athletes uphold the spirit of solidarity, honesty, sportsmanship, confidence, and perseverance, competing and giving their all with the will to be faster, stronger, and higher, aiming for the healthy development of national sports.

The competition attracted 450 male and female athletes from 60 cycling clubs nationwide and 4 cycling clubs from the provinces of Pakse and Sanavakhet (Laos), Ratanakiri (Cambodia), and Mukdahan (Thailand). They competed in 4 events held on routes around Quang Tri Ancient Citadel (Quang Tri town), with the women's event covering all age groups over 20km; the men's event covered 30km and was divided into three age groups: under 39 years old; 39-50 years old; and 51 years old and above.

Earlier, provincial leaders, delegates, the organizing committee, and athletes solemnly held a ceremony to pay respects, lay flowers, and offer incense at the Quang Tri Ancient Citadel Memorial, expressing gratitude and commemorating the contributions of the heroic martyrs who fell during the 81-day and 81-night campaign to defend the Ancient Citadel. The organizing committee then held a street parade with the theme "Cycling for peace, for a green, clean, and beautiful environment."
