The check-in area is located at the West end of Terminal 2 at Noi Bai Airport.
After more than 18 months of intensive construction since the groundbreaking ceremony on May 19, 2024, the Noi Bai T2 Passenger Terminal expansion project is expected to officially inaugurate and begin operations on December 19. This project, with its new design and modern technology, is considered a significant highlight, not only helping to alleviate infrastructure pressure but also increasing the terminal's designed capacity from 10 million to 15 million passengers per year, while simultaneously streamlining procedures and enhancing the passenger experience.
Relieve congestion and improve service capacity.
The expansion of Terminal T2 is urgent given its constant overcrowding. In the first 11 months of 2025 alone, Terminal T2 served nearly 13 million passengers, far exceeding its initial design capacity. Throughout the construction period, representatives from Noi Bai International Airport stated that the airport closely coordinated with the project management board and contractors to establish strict control procedures, maintaining construction progress while ensuring absolute safety in operations.
Upon completion, the total floor area of Terminal 2 will increase from 139,216 m2 to 200,164 m2, accompanied by significant upgrades to passenger service areas.
- The number of check-in counters has increased from 4 to 6 islands, raising the total number of counters from 96 to 144, including 24 self-baggage drop-off counters.
- An additional 24 self-check-in kiosks have been added for passengers to check in themselves.
- Security screening has been expanded from 2 to 3 zones (A, B, C).
- The number of boarding gates has been increased from 17 to 30, evenly distributed across the East and West wings.
- The baggage conveyor system has been upgraded from 6 to 8 conveyors, helping to shorten baggage claim times.
These changes are expected to significantly improve the station's throughput, especially during peak hours.
A step towards a "Smart Airport" with automation technology.
The T2 Terminal expansion project marks a significant transformation for Noi Bai International Airport in digitizing aviation processes, moving towards a "Smart Airport" model. For the first time, an ecosystem of automated equipment is being deployed synchronously, empowering passengers and optimizing operational capacity.

New check-in kiosk systems are now available in the West End check-in area of Noi Bai T2 Terminal.

Automated baggage drop-off area.
Specifically, in the departure hall area, the Port has installed a system of 24 check-in kiosks and 24 self-bag drop-off counters. The operation of this large number of self-service devices allows passengers to be completely proactive in choosing seats, printing boarding passes, and checking in luggage without having to queue at traditional check-in counters, thereby enhancing the passenger experience.

3D scanning system in the central scanning area.
The technological highlight is concentrated in the Smart Security screening area, featuring 6 next-generation 3D screening machines and 3 state-of-the-art, TSA-approved body scanners. The 3D baggage scanners integrate automatic tray return technology and multi-dimensional 3D imaging, allowing for fast and accurate screening. Notably, the body scanners use millimeter wave technology, which is absolutely safe (no ionizing radiation, safe for pregnant women and those with pacemakers), scans quickly in seconds, and ensures maximum privacy through neutral avatar-style image display.

Automated exit lane.
Simultaneously, an automated exit lane system (Autogate) has also been installed in the border police and boarding pass control areas. This combination helps to speed up immigration and security check procedures, minimizing queuing time.
Green spaces and amenities enhance the quality of service.

Ecological green spaces are cleverly integrated into the landscape design.
The expanded Terminal 2 focuses on enhancing the user experience through eco-friendly design (Green Airport) and specialized amenities. Eco-friendly green spaces are cleverly integrated into the landscape design, transforming the airport into refreshing "breathing spaces" that provide relaxation for passengers.

Families with young children can now travel comfortably with free strollers at Terminal 2.
The upgraded amenities include: strollers and changing tables for families with young children; dedicated golf club racks for sports tourists; prayer rooms and a luxurious fragrance system in public areas.
To ensure the smooth operation of the new infrastructure and technology, the airport conducted trial runs with simulated flights over three days, from December 4th to 6th. The main objective was to verify the seamless operation of the entire passenger service chain in the expanded area, from check-in to security screening and departure gates. This realistic scenario helped the airport and terminal operators assess their operational coordination capabilities and promptly address any technical bottlenecks.
From December 19th, Noi Bai International Airport will officially receive and put into operation the expanded facilities. Passengers are advised to pay attention to the signage and flight information display screens (FIDS) to ensure they navigate the correct lanes in the new area. This inauguration contributes to continuously improving the quality of service at Noi Bai International Airport, befitting its status as an important international air gateway for the capital and the entire country.
