In the first 8 months of 2024, pepper exports to Germany increased by nearly 98% in volume.

Germany is Vietnam's second-largest pepper export market. In August, pepper exports to the United States broke all-time highs.

According to data from the General Department of Customs, in August, Vietnam exported 19,420 tons of pepper, worth US$116.7 million, a decrease of 10.9% in volume and 10.1% in value compared to July 2024. Cumulatively, in the first eight months of 2024, Vietnam's pepper exports reached 182,930 tons with a value of nearly US$878 million, a decrease of 2.7% in volume but an increase of 42.8% in value compared to the same period last year.

Also in August, Vietnam's pepper exports to the German market totaled 1,080 tons, worth $6.4 million, a decrease of 24.4% in volume and 29.2% in value compared to the previous month, but an increase of 74.2% in volume and 2.4 times in value compared to the same period last year.

In the first eight months of the year, pepper exports to this market reached 12,133 tons, equivalent to $63.7 million, a sharp increase of 97.5% in volume and 2.5 times (151.8%) in value compared to the same period last year.

With this result, Germany has risen to second place in Vietnam's pepper export market after the US, with its market share increasing from 3.3% in the same period last year to 6.6% in the first eight months of the year.

According to data from the European Statistical Agency (Eurostat), Germany's pepper imports are also increasing, reaching 12,029 tons by the end of June this year, worth 57.6 million EUR, a 25.4% increase in volume and a 31.4% increase in value compared to the same period last year.

Germany is currently the largest importer of pepper in the European Union, and Vietnam is its biggest supplier.

Accordingly, Germany's pepper imports from Vietnam in the first six months reached 6,652 tons, an increase of 67.7% compared to the same period last year and accounting for more than half (55.3%) of the country's total pepper imports, while also expanding significantly compared to the 41.4% market share in the first half of 2023.

The average price of pepper imported by Germany from Vietnam in the first six months of the year reached US$4,420 per ton, an increase of 11.3% compared to the same period last year. This price is also higher than the US$4,074 per ton of Brazil, its main competitor in this market.
