Domestic pepper prices recover.
The domestic pepper market on December 12th showed a recovery trend as many key producing regions simultaneously adjusted prices upwards by 500 VND/kg. The common trading price currently fluctuates between 148,000 and 150,000 VND/kg.
This recovery is occurring against the backdrop of a sharp decline in domestic supply. Many pepper farmers tend to hold onto their stock, waiting for better prices, thus shrinking the amount of pepper circulating in the market. At the same time, improved export activity towards the end of the year has encouraged businesses and dealers to increase purchasing, providing further impetus to support prices.
| Local | Price (VND/kg) | Change |
|---|---|---|
| Dak Lak | 150,000 | +500 |
| Boeing Nong | 150,000 | +500 |
| Gia Lai (Chu Se) | 148,000 | +500 |
| Ba Ria - Vung Tau | 148,500 | +500 |
| Binh Phuoc | 148,500 | +500 |

Contrasting developments in the global market.
According to the International Pepper Association (IPC), the global market showed divergence in the most recent trading session. Pepper prices in Indonesia and Brazil tended to decline slightly, while prices in Malaysia and Vietnam remained stable.
Specifically, the price of Indonesian Lampung black pepper fell to $6,981 per ton, and Muntok white pepper to $9,624 per ton. In Brazil, the price of ASTA 570 black pepper decreased by 1.23%, to $6,075 per ton.
Meanwhile, Vietnam's export pepper prices continue to remain high and stable: black pepper (500 g/l) traded at US$6,500/ton, (550 g/l) at US$6,700/ton, and white pepper at US$9,250/ton. These prices reflect stable demand from major markets such as the US and the EU.
Trend forecasting
Vietnam's pepper production in the 2024-2025 crop year is projected to reach only about 160,000 tons, a decrease of 5% to 7% compared to the previous crop due to the impact of aging plantations and pests. Exports in the first 11 months of the year grew by over 20%, creating a positive foundation for prices.
Experts predict that in the second half of December, if supply remains limited and exports maintain their growth momentum, domestic pepper prices could reach 150,000 – 152,000 VND/kg. Conversely, profit-taking pressure from farmers or early harvest supply could push prices down to 147,000 – 149,000 VND/kg.
