In the first 8 months of 2023, Vietnam imported 7.22 million tons of various types of gasoline and oil, worth 5.88 billion USD, up 22.2% in volume but down 5.5% in value over the same period in 2022.

Of which, the amount of imported diesel reached more than 4 million tons, an increase of 18.5%, accounting for 55% of the country's imported petroleum products. The amount of imported gasoline reached 1.48 million tons, an increase of 38.4% over the same period last year and accounting for 20% of the country's imported petroleum products.

Specifically, imports from South Korea were 2.94 million tons, up 24.7%; Singapore was 1.74 million tons, up 110.1%; Malaysia was 1.27 million tons, up 56%; China was 629,000 tons, up 12.2% over the same period in 2022.

Cumulatively in the first 8 months of 2023, the total import-export value of the whole country reached 436.44 billion USD, down 12.8%, equivalent to a decrease of 64.21 billion USD compared to the same period last year. Of which, exports were 228.17 billion USD, down 9.8%, equivalent to a decrease of 24.79 billion USD and imports were 208.27 billion USD, down 15.9%, equivalent to a decrease of 39.42 billion USD. Thus, in the first 8 months of 2023, the country's trade balance of goods had a trade surplus of 19.9 billion USD.
