96,000 candidates compete for admission to public grade 10

Ho Chi Minh City About 96,000 candidates officially entered the public 10th grade exam with the first subject being Literature, on the morning of June 6.

Candidates will do the test from 8am, in 120 minutes.

Previously, the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training said that the structure of the Literature exam would remain stable as every year, with three parts: Reading comprehension (3 points), Social commentary (3 points) and Literary commentary (4 points).

However, the Department of Orientation has set a high level of openness in the exam questions, students need to practice skills and accumulate knowledge to best perform the requirements of the exam. In the past two years, the Literature exam has given a consistent theme for all three parts.

This year, Ho Chi Minh City has nearly 114,000 junior high school graduates, of which 96,300 registered to take the public 10th grade exam. Of these, more than 88,000 students took the regular 10th grade exam, about 6,900 students took the specialized exam, and 1,100 students took the integrated 10th grade exam.

All candidates must take three compulsory subjects: Literature, Math, and Foreign Language. They will take an additional specialized or integrated exam if they register for these two models.

The total target of 108 public high schools in the city is 77,300, the admission rate is about 80%. 14 schools have a competition rate of over 1/2, on average, for every two or three students taking the exam, only one student is admitted. Of these, the highest are Nguyen Thuong Hien High School (1/3.55) and Gia Dinh High School (1/3). Next are Nguyen Huu Huan High School, Nguyen Thi Minh Khai, Mac Dinh Chi, Bui Thi Xuan, Phu Nhuan... These are also schools with high 10th grade benchmark scores in previous years.

Competition rate for specialized 10th graders in Ho Chi Minh City The highest is 1/5.4, at Le Hong Phong High School for the Gifted. This ratio at Tran Dai Nghia High School for the Gifted is 1/4.6.

Integrated Block 10 There are about 1,025 quotas, more than 1,146 candidates registered, a slight decrease compared to last year, the average competition ratio is 1/1.1.

The city arranged 158 examination sites, including 147 regular examination sites and 11 specialized examination sites. More than 12,300 officials, teachers and 2,300 employees, security guards and police were mobilized to supervise the examinations and perform other duties.

About 19,000 candidates who failed the public 10th grade exam can continue studying at private schools, continuing education centers, and vocational schools.
