Study tips

On the morning of July 17th, the Ministry of Education and Training announced the results of the 2024 high school graduation exam. Hong Ngoc and her parents anxiously entered her registration number to check her score.

The female student said that the moment her family saw her score appear on the screen, everyone in the family was overwhelmed with happiness and it took them several minutes to regain their composure.

Sharing her study secrets, the top-scoring student said that she dedicates all her time each day to studying, only sleeping for 4 hours and spending 1-2 hours on personal activities. In particular, the student from Bac Ninh always adheres to discipline in her studies and allocates her time wisely to thoroughly absorb the necessary knowledge.

"I have a fixed study schedule at school in the morning and afternoon, and I study on my own in the evenings. Before studying, I usually review the material, marking down difficult questions to ask my teachers and friends that same evening."

"Every day, I practice exam questions from 7 PM to midnight and wake up at 4 AM to memorize the material, because this is when the brain is most receptive," the top-scoring student shared.

During the exam preparation process, the female student was most confident in History. Hong Ngoc said: "I am a history major, so my foundational knowledge is quite solid. Therefore, in the final stages, I only focused on reviewing application and advanced application questions."

In addition, the top-scoring student regularly connects with issues that have occurred in recent years to broaden their knowledge and deepen their thinking about domestic and world history.

Regarding Literature, Hong Ngoc said that in addition to mastering the knowledge in the textbook, she reads many other books to be able to connect one work with another, making her essays more diverse. In particular, she proactively seeks out and memorizes insightful opinions and famous quotes to incorporate into her essays to enhance her knowledge.

For Geography specifically, Hong Ngoc's secret is that after each lesson at school, she tries to relate the lesson content to the atlas to both hone her atlas-using skills and minimize the amount of knowledge she needs to remember.

Hong Ngoc emphasized, "Being proficient in using the atlas is very important; it makes me feel very confident when doing practice questions or even during actual exams."

The fruits of hard work

Hong Ngoc was born and raised in a family of farmers. From a young age, the student from Bac Ninh witnessed her parents toiling in the fields to make a living and earn money to support their children's education.

Life was tough, but Hong Ngoc's parents always wanted their children to receive a proper education.

"Despite the difficulties, my parents have always supported my dreams and decisions in my studies. My father once encouraged me, saying that as long as I study hard and become a successful person, no matter how difficult things get, my parents will save up to support my education," Hong Ngoc confided.

Understanding those sacrifices, during her high school years, the female student always strived to study hard so that she could reach the gates of university and fulfill her dream of becoming a lawyer.

Hong Ngoc said: "Coming from a family with no one in the legal field, but because of my shy nature, I dream of becoming a good lawyer, to help me become more assertive, confident, and dynamic when interacting with people."

Thanks to that motivation, in the 2024 high school graduation exam, Hong Ngoc achieved 29.5 points in the C00 subject group, excellently becoming the second-highest scorer nationwide.

Not only did she achieve high scores in the High School Graduation Exam, the top-scoring female student in Law also impressed others with her academic achievements throughout her three years of high school.

For two consecutive years, Hong Ngoc consistently achieved high rankings in the History subject competition for gifted students. Notably, the student from Bac Ninh also had the honor of winning a Bronze Medal in History at the 14th Northern Coastal and Delta Region History Competition in 2023.

Prior to that, she was also the top-scoring student in the entrance exam for the specialized History class at Bac Ninh High School for Gifted Students in 2021.

Witnessing her young student entering her dream university, Ms. Tran Thi Bich Ngoc, a teacher at Bac Ninh Specialized High School (Bac Ninh), shared: “Hong Ngoc is a determined student with a very good self-study spirit. Every day in class, she pays close attention to the lectures and proactively works on many assignments to consolidate her knowledge.”

"She excelled in all social science subjects, consistently ranking at the top of her class. I was impressed not only by her academic performance but also by Hong Ngoc's gentle personality and her perseverance in pursuing her dreams."

Ms. Ngoc also added that she was very happy to learn that her student had become the valedictorian of Hanoi Law University. This result is a testament to Hong Ngoc's hard work and dedication throughout her high school years.

Ms. Ngoc hopes that in the future, the top-scoring student will fulfill his dreams and strive even harder to become a skilled lawyer.

Sharing her future plans, Hong Ngoc said: "Hanoi Law University has many talented students, so I need to study hard and actively participate in many school activities to further develop my soft skills."

Entering university is just the beginning of the journey to realizing my dreams, and the title of valedictorian is also just that. To be worthy of this title, I must strive and work even harder. I hope that after four years of university, I will become a skilled lawyer."
