Tennis player Carlos Alcaraz displayed remarkable skill by convincingly defeating Novak Djokovic 6-4, 7-6, 6-2 to advance to the US Open final. This victory not only solidified Alcaraz's position but also brought him closer to his second Grand Slam title.
After the match, the focus was on Alcaraz's candid comments about his performance and feelings. Alcaraz admitted it wasn't his best match, but it was one of his most memorable victories.
"It's fantastic to be in the final again and it means a lot to me," Alcaraz said in an on-court interview.
"Honestly, today wasn't my best day at this tournament. I made more mistakes than usual. But the important thing is that I fought to the end and never gave up. I kept my spirit and capitalized on the crucial moments," Alcaraz said.
When asked about the key to the Spanish player's victory, Alcaraz emphasized two crucial factors: serving and physical fitness: "I served very well, that's incredibly important. Especially at crucial moments, my serve helped me get out of many difficult situations."
Despite the quick end, Alcaraz still said it was a physically demanding match. The world number 2 prided himself on his stamina: “This was a very physically demanding match and I prepared well for it. I always tried to move, put pressure on my opponent and not give him time to rest. That worked.”
With this victory, Alcaraz reached his third consecutive Grand Slam final and his eighth consecutive final across all competitions. Notably, he reached the final in New York without losing a single set.
“That’s a proud achievement, and I want to maintain it,” Alcaraz affirmed. “But the final will be a completely different challenge. Whoever my opponent is, I will have to play with 100% of my ability and not make any mistakes. I am ready for the final battle,” Alcaraz shared.
Alcaraz's opponent in the final will be the winner of the match between Italian player Jannik Sinner and Canadian Felix Auger-Aliassime.
