In early April, Da Lat artichokes were officially recognized by the Asian Record Organization as achieving an Asian Record for famous Vietnamese dishes and specialties according to the criteria for establishing "Asian Culinary Value".
In Vietnam, artichokes are mainly grown in areas such as Tam Dao ( Vinh Phuc ) and Sa Pa (Lao Cai), but the most abundant and famous artichokes are still those from Da Lat.
This is a temperate plant species, brought to Da Lat by the French in the late 19th century. The region has favorable soil and climate, creating optimal conditions for the growth and development of artichokes. As a result, artichokes grown here are of excellent quality with the highest cynarine content in Vietnam.
This plant also offers high economic value as all parts, from flowers, leaves, stems, and roots, can be used. From fresh ingredients to finished products, artichokes have the effect of cooling the liver, promoting bile flow, acting as a diuretic, and helping to lower blood cholesterol. In particular, the cynarine extract from artichokes helps to eliminate alcohol quickly.
LIVE In Da Lat, artichokes are divided into two types: pointed-flowered and round-flowered. Pointed-flowered artichokes have long, outward-pointing petals, a deep purple color, thin petals, and less flesh. This type has a bitter taste and is suitable for making tea or drying.
Artichokes have large, round flowers with petals that fold inward, forming a large, very round bud. When the flower is young, the petals are green; as it matures, the leaves gradually turn purple. This type of flower is often used in cooking because it has a thick, slightly bitter flesh that is very refreshing and nutritious for the body.
Because of these values, in early March 2023, the Vietnam Record Organization (VietKings) completed the nomination dossiers to send to the Asia Record Organization for recognition of Da Lat artichoke as a record-breaking dish/group of dishes, a famous specialty of Vietnam.
Just one month later, the Asian Record Organization officially recognized Da Lat artichokes as achieving an Asian record value according to the criteria set by the Asian Record Organization.
In addition to Da Lat artichokes, the Asian Records Organization also decided to recognize 8 other Asian Records for famous Vietnamese dishes/food groups and specialties nominated by the Vietnam Records Organization (VietKings).
These include: Can Tho folk cakes (Can Tho City); Fried sticky rice (Dong Nai); Dinh Bang Phu The cake (Bac Ninh); Dragon fruit (Binh Thuan); Phan Thiet Golden Fish fish sauce (Binh Thuan); Luc Ngan lychee ( Bac Giang ); Long Xuyen broken rice (An Giang); and dishes made from pineapple (Hau Giang).
