A typical workday for officers, soldiers, and workers of Production Team No. 1 (710 Economic -Defense Regiment) begins very early with setting up rubber tapping blades. During the waiting period before harvesting, a group of officers and workers from the unit go down to the villages to spread awareness, mobilize support, assess the situation, and assist the local people with their production.

Following Major Mai Duc Hau, Team Leader of Production Team No. 1, we arrived at Krong village, Ia Mo commune. For a long time, the people of Krong village have regarded the officers and soldiers of Production Team No. 1 as family because this unit is twinned with the village. After a warm handshake, village elder Ro Mah Klet began his story: “The village still has nearly 20 poor households. Despite the rain these past few days, the villagers have still been working in the fields. They feel reassured after some young men who gathered to drink alcohol and then drove recklessly on motorbikes were summoned and reprimanded.” The story told by village elder Ro Mah Klet provided ample information for the unit's officers and soldiers to coordinate and carry out their work.
Stationed in the border region, the 710th Economic-Defense Regiment has consistently upheld the motto "a working army, a fighting army, a labor and production army, and an army that helps the people." The unit's innovative and effective methods have contributed to helping many families in the border areas escape poverty. Lieutenant Colonel Le Thanh Tung, Political Commissar of the Regiment, stated: "We always recognize that to achieve effective production and business and ensure national defense and security in the assigned border area, the unit must do a good job of civilian affairs work, helping the people develop socio-economic conditions. From 2023 to the present, we have allocated over 1 billion VND to support 138 breeding cows for the people. Just since the beginning of this year, the unit has mobilized over 3 billion VND to visit and give gifts to policy beneficiary families, poor households, and provide support for planting seeds and fertilizers for the people."
One of the effective initiatives implemented by military units stationed in border areas is providing breeding cows to local people. Mr. Kpuih Ri's family (Blu village, Ia Tôr commune) is a poor household. In 2022, he received a breeding cow and materials for building a barn from Binh Duong Company. The unit also regularly sends officers to provide guidance on care and disease prevention. "I'm very happy because the cow the unit provided has already given birth to a calf, and the mother cow is currently preparing to give birth to another litter. My family will take good care of the cow to breed it, hoping for a better life," Mr. Ri said.

With the motto of doing what the people need and helping in the most meaningful way, the 710th Economic-Defense Regiment and Binh Duong Company have effectively implemented community outreach models to help people escape poverty. Colonel Le Duc Toan, Secretary of the Party Committee and Deputy Director of Binh Duong Company, said: "Helping people escape poverty and supporting localities in building new rural areas is a key task of the unit. In the first six months of this year, we have supported localities in building two 'Bright Star Village' projects with a length of nearly 3 km, installing 54 poles and streetlights. Currently, the unit is urgently completing and handing over 62 houses in the program to eliminate temporary and dilapidated houses assigned by the higher authorities. In addition, the company has also allocated more than 4 billion VND to support food, gifts and other necessities for policy beneficiary families, poor households, and workers in difficult circumstances."
Evaluating the coordination and assistance provided by units under the 15th Army Corps to the locality, Mr. Nguyen Van Luyen, Chairman of the People's Committee of Ia Tor commune, said: "We always highly appreciate the assistance from these units. They not only recruit workers to work as rubber tappers, creating stable income; they implement many effective community mobilization programs to help people develop their economy and alleviate poverty, but they also support the locality in building new rural areas. In the coming time, the commune and the units will strive to effectively implement the coordination regulations and carry out many meaningful projects."
