At around 3:30 p.m., Ms. Le Thi Hue , 29 years old, along with her son Dinh Duc Vy, 10 years old, and nephew Dinh Gia Bao, 16 years old, went to play at Be De reservoir.

While playing at the lake, Vy slipped and fell into the water. Hue and Bao swam out to save him, but both drowned in the deep lake. Some children playing nearby discovered him and ran into the village to inform adults to come and rescue him, but to no avail.

More than an hour later, the Fire Prevention and Fighting and Search and Rescue Police of Lam Dong Province found the bodies of the three victims.

Be De is a reservoir about two hectares wide and 5-15 meters deep, serving irrigation in Dong Nai Thuong commune, Cat Tien district. The lake area has warning signs to prevent drowning.
