On the afternoon of January 14th, the Hanoi Department of Agriculture and Rural Development held a conference to summarize its information and communication work in 2024 and to implement tasks for 2025.

The press provides timely and comprehensive coverage of agriculture , farmers, and rural areas in Hanoi.

According to a report by the Hanoi Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, in 2024, the city's agricultural production made efforts to overcome difficulties and capitalize on advantages, achieving a growth rate of 2.52% compared to the same period in 2023 (ranking second among northern provinces and cities). The total value of agricultural production reached VND 66,373 billion, an increase of 12.35% compared to 2023. Exports of agricultural and forestry products exceeded USD 2 billion, of which agricultural and food products reached USD 1.46 billion, an increase of 33.8% compared to 2023.

The New Rural Development program continues to lead the country, with the number of advanced new rural districts, advanced new rural communes, and model new rural communes all exceeding planned targets and achieving their goals one year ahead of schedule. The number of OCOP products also exceeded the set targets, achieving them one year ahead of schedule and continuing to lead the country.

The first two craft villages in Hanoi, and indeed in Vietnam, namely Bat Trang pottery village (Gia Lam district) and Van Phuc silk village (Ha Dong district), have become members of the World Creative Cities Network.

To achieve these results, the active cooperation of central and Hanoi-based news agencies and media outlets in extensively disseminating information about the city's agricultural sector is indispensable. This communication has helped farmers and businesses promptly grasp the Party's guidelines and policies, and the State's laws and regulations on agricultural development and rural development; strengthened people's awareness of safe agricultural production and consumption; provided timely information on consumer markets; new scientific and technological advancements; and established supply chains from production to consumption.

In 2024, the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development collaborated with central and Hanoi-based broadcasting stations such as Vietnam Television, Vietnam Radio, and Hanoi Radio and Television to produce 227 programs, 177 reports, features, and news bulletins. It also collaborated with newspapers such as Hanoi Moi Newspaper, Vietnam Agriculture Newspaper, Rural Today Newspaper, Economy & Urban Newspaper, and Vietnam News to produce 103 special features, 633 articles, and 1 video clip promoting agriculture and rural development in Hanoi. This aimed to provide timely information on the policies and guidelines of the Party, State, and Hanoi city, and to introduce and promote agricultural and rural activities in Hanoi. These activities contributed to the success of the agricultural sector and the overall economic development of the city.

Speaking at the conference, Director of the Hanoi Department of Agriculture and Rural Development Nguyen Xuan Dai affirmed that central and Hanoi-based media agencies have produced many timely, objective, and comprehensive reports and articles reflecting on agriculture, farmers, and rural areas in Hanoi. Most notably, through the dissemination of Resolution 08/2023/NQ-HĐND dated July 4, 2023, on regulations regarding policies to encourage agricultural development in Hanoi, many entities, organizations, and individuals operating along the value chain have accessed support policies and mechanisms; most notably, the support mechanism for mechanization machinery has helped raise the mechanization rate of rice planting in the city to its highest level ever in 2024.

During the two storms (numbers 2 and 3), the press agencies promptly intervened, closely following and accompanying all activities and steps of the agricultural sector and localities, reaching every household and production area affected and damaged. Thanks to this, the agricultural sector had a stronger basis to advise the City People's Committee to issue four major support programs, enabling timely production recovery.

Dissemination of information through social media platforms and technology-related news.

At the conference, representatives from several central and Hanoi-based news agencies exchanged ideas and contributed suggestions to further improve information and communication work on Hanoi's agricultural sector in 2025 and beyond.

Suggesting a direction for future communication efforts, Deputy Editor-in-Chief of the Economic & Urban Newspaper Nguyen Xuan Khanh stated that communication work in the coming period needs to be reformed and elevated to match the achievements, potential, and advantages of Hanoi's agricultural sector.

For example, strengthen communication through social media platforms. Simultaneously, focus on digitizing agricultural products, while improving the skills of farmers and cooperatives in promoting and selling agricultural products and OCOP (One Commune One Product) products through livestreaming on Facebook, Zalo, YouTube, and e-commerce platforms. This solution not only opens up markets for agricultural products but also helps farmers and cooperatives increase revenue and boost agricultural growth.

In addition, it is necessary to promote the fields of Hanoi's agriculture and rural development sector through technological and multimedia journalistic products such as e-magazines, longforms, infographics, etc., in order to reflect them more vividly and comprehensively, thereby attracting and meeting the increasingly high demands of readers.

"I propose that the Hanoi Department of Agriculture and Rural Development include the content of coordinated communication in the agricultural sector in 2025, in the form of developing specific technological and multimedia journalistic products, regarding quantity, quality criteria, and reach, into its annual plan. This will contribute to further enhancing the effectiveness of communication, as well as addressing difficulties and shortcomings in the practical implementation of the Capital's agricultural work," Mr. Nguyen Xuan Khanh suggested.

Acknowledging and accepting the feedback from representatives of the press agencies, the Director of the Hanoi Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, Nguyen Xuan Dai, expressed his hope that the press agencies would continue to cooperate with the capital's agricultural sector in achieving the most optimal results in communication efforts.

According to Mr. Nguyen Xuan Dai, in 2025, Hanoi's agricultural sector will continue to restructure itself, focusing on improving the quality of rural development and environmental protection, and adapting to climate change. Priority will be given to developing high-tech agriculture, urban agriculture, ecological agriculture, clean agricultural production, organic agriculture, and OCOP products; developing concentrated specialized farming areas and raw material zones for processing and export. Emphasis will be placed on effectively implementing mechanisms and policies in the agricultural and rural sectors; while simultaneously reviewing, adjusting, perfecting, and supplementing mechanisms and policies to encourage agricultural development under the Capital City Law to attract organizations and individuals to invest in agriculture and rural areas within the city.

In 2025, Hanoi's agriculture and rural sector aims for a growth rate of 2.5% or higher; a total production value of 70,000 billion VND for agriculture, forestry, and fisheries; agricultural and forestry exports reaching 2.5 billion USD; by the end of 2025, the city will have an additional 35 communes meeting advanced new rural standards and 29 communes meeting model new rural standards; and will be recognized by the Government as a "City that has completed the task of building new rural areas".

"These tasks and objectives not only require the decisive efforts of all officials, employees, and workers in the city's agricultural sector, but also the coordination and cooperation of central and city-level news agencies and media outlets in carrying out information and propaganda work," Mr. Nguyen Xuan Dai emphasized.
