The Ministry of Industry and Trade has just decided to recognize the principals of two universities: Ho Chi Minh City University of Industry and Ho Chi Minh City University of Industry and Trade.

According to the decision signed by Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade Nguyen Sinh Nhat Tan, Dr. Phan Hong Hai holds the position of Rector of Ho Chi Minh City University of Industry for the 2023-2028 term. Associate Professor, Dr. Nguyen Xuan Hoan holds the position of Rector of Ho Chi Minh City University of Industry and Trade for the 2023-2028 term. Both decisions take effect from the date of signing (January 9).

Thus, after nearly a year of vacant principal positions, two universities under the Ministry of Industry and Trade have officially appointed principals. Notably, these two principals were previously appointed to the principal position. Before the decision to recognize them as current principals, both held the position of chairman of the school board.

Specifically, in 2020, Dr. Phan Hong Hai was appointed Rector of Ho Chi Minh City University of Industry, and in May 2023, he transferred to the position of Chairman of the University Council. Similarly, Associate Professor, Dr. Nguyen Xuan Hoan was appointed Rector of Ho Chi Minh City University of Industry and Trade in 2019 and also transferred to the position of Chairman of the University Council in May 2023.

The two universities are both under the Ministry of Industry and Trade. A representative of Ho Chi Minh City University of Industry said the transition from the position of principal to chairman of the university council and back to principal is to carry out the process of introducing and appointing management positions according to the provisions of the 2018 Law on Higher Education .
