The Ministry of Education and Training has just released a draft Circular stipulating the Advanced Education Program for specialized subjects for specialized high schools.
The draft regulations stipulate the time allocation for teaching advanced educational content in each specialized subject. Specifically, Literature and Mathematics: 70 lessons/academic year; History, Geography, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, and Informatics: 52 lessons/academic year; and foreign languages (English, German, Russian, French, Chinese, Korean, and Japanese): 70 lessons/academic year.
Advanced education programs in specialized subjects with compulsory content and compulsory elective content account for about 20% of the duration of the advanced education program.
The program enhances practical and experimental content in natural science subjects across all topics, promotes the use of information technology, and guides students towards specializing in the exploitation and use of AI technology.
The Ministry of Education and Training stated that the draft curriculum structure is clear, facilitating teachers in planning their lessons; the knowledge in the core curriculum, learning modules (as stipulated in the 2018 general education curriculum), and advanced education modules are interconnected, build upon existing knowledge, innovate, and are synchronized; creating novelty and appeal for both teachers and learners as they conquer increasingly higher levels of knowledge.
According to the Ministry of Education and Training, the advanced education program for specialized subjects is built on the principle of enhancing the curriculum stipulated in Circular No. 32/2018/TT-BGDĐT, excluding expanded content beyond the subject's knowledge units, and incorporating international approaches and continuous innovation in line with global trends. The subject content includes specialized topics of national and international interest, meeting the requirements for advanced training, talent selection, and competition for national and international student excellence competitions.
According to the Ministry of Education and Training, the advanced program is academically oriented and specialized, therefore requiring teachers to enhance their professional competence, possess broad and deep knowledge of the subject; be proficient in active teaching methods, integrated teaching, scientific research, and student competency development; and be able to guide students in carrying out learning and research projects, participating in gifted student competitions and international examinations.
For gifted students, the program creates an enhanced academic environment, developing logical thinking, creativity, critical thinking, self-learning, research, and academic presentation skills; ensuring the ability to participate in student competitions at all levels, international competitions, and high school science and technology research. The program helps students determine their career path early and clearly through expanded knowledge of industries and fields related to the subjects; and specialized career orientation.
