(Chinhphu.vn) - The Ministry of Home Affairs proposed that during the 2026 Lunar New Year holiday, civil servants and public employees will have 9 days off (including 05 days off for Lunar New Year as prescribed and 04 days off every week).

The Ministry of Home Affairs said that it has drafted a proposal for Lunar New Year and National Day holidays in 2026 for officials, civil servants, public employees and workers in administrative agencies, public service agencies, political organizations, socio-political organizations, and enterprises, and sent an official dispatch to 13 relevant ministries and agencies for comments. Through synthesis, 100% of the ministries and agencies that sent comments agreed with the plan proposed by the Ministry of Home Affairs.

Currently, the Ministry of Home Affairs has submitted to the Prime Minister for consideration and decision on Lunar New Year and National Day holidays in 2026.

Specifically as follows:

For civil servants and public employees, Lunar New Year holiday 2026: 05 days off according to regulations, including 01 day off before Tet and 04 days after Tet.

Civil servants and public employees will have Lunar New Year 2026 holiday from Saturday, February 14, 2026 (December 27, year of the Snake) to Sunday, February 22, 2026 (January 6, year of the Horse).

Thus, during the 2026 Lunar New Year holiday, civil servants and public employees will have 9 days off (including 5 days off for Lunar New Year as prescribed and 4 days off every week).

National Day holiday in 2026: Closed on September 2, 2026 and the day immediately preceding September 1, 2026; Swap from working day Monday (August 31, 2026) to weekly day off Saturday (August 22, 2026).

Civil servants and public employees will have a holiday for National Day 2026 from Saturday, August 29, 2026 to Wednesday, September 2, 2026 of the Gregorian calendar. Thus, on the occasion of National Day 2026, civil servants and public employees will have 05 days off (including 02 National Day holidays according to regulations, 02 weekly days off and 01 day exchanged with a weekly day off).

For employees , based on actual conditions and holiday schedules for civil servants and public employees, employers arrange Lunar New Year and National Day holidays for employees, specifically:

Lunar New Year holiday 2026: Choose 01 last day of At Ty year and 04 first days of Binh Ngo year or 02 last days of At Ty year and 03 first days of Binh Ngo year or 03 last days of At Ty year and 02 first days of Binh Ngo year.

National Day holiday 2026: The employer decides to give employees 02 days off (September 2 and 01 day before or after).

Notify employees of the Lunar New Year and National Day holiday plans for 2026 at least 30 days before implementation.

If the weekly day off coincides with a public holiday as prescribed in Clause 1, Article 112 of the Labor Code, the employer shall arrange compensatory weekly day off for the employee on the next working day as prescribed in Clause 3, Article 111 of the Labor Code.

Encourage employers to apply the Lunar New Year and National Day holidays in 2026 for employees as the same plan for civil servants and public employees; encourage agreements that are more beneficial to employees.
