The victory also opened up the opportunity to participate in the world tournament for coach Nguyen Tuan Kiet and his team.
At VTV Cup, the Australian team also lost to both Vietnamese teams with the same score of 0-3, so a victory for coach Nguyen Tuan Kiet and his team in this match is expected.
The actual match also proved that. In the first set, Vietnam continuously took the lead with an increasing gap. From 9-6, 15-10, 18-12, 21-14, to 22-14. And with the decisive point of middle blocker Bich Thuy, Vietnam won 25-15 in the first set.
Continuing the excitement, the Vietnamese girls had an impressive start in the second set to lead 8-2.
The Australian team then took advantage of their physical advantage to shorten the gap to 5-10, but the excellent performance of Lam Oanh and Ly Thi Luyen helped Vietnam continue to lead 13-7, 15-10.
Then came an impressive scoring streak that ended with Kieu Trinh's drop shot giving Vietnam a 20-10 lead. Despite the opposing team's efforts during the final consultation, Vietnam still won with a score of 25-15.
The final set seemed easy for the Vietnamese girls when we led 9-1. The Australian team's efforts only helped them shorten the score to 4-11 and 6-14, before the gap widened to 8-17.
However, that was also the time when the Vietnamese women's volleyball team was somewhat complacent. The Australian team shortened the score to 15-20, 19-21, then 21-23. Coach Nguyen Tuan Kiet promptly consulted and adjusted the team's spirit so that the team could win 2 consecutive points, ending the set with a score of 25-21.
The top three teams of the Asian Women's Volleyball Championship will qualify for the 2025 Women's Volleyball World Cup. The door to this tournament is quite close when the Vietnamese women's volleyball team won the right to enter the semi-finals.
Of course, the challenge will be much greater when the opponents in the semi-finals, Japan or China, are both much stronger. The most realistic goal for coach Nguyen Tuan Kiet and his team will be 3rd place and the final ticket to the world tournament.
