Localities plan for students to stay home and study online to cope with storm No. 12

Minister of Education and Training Nguyen Kim Son has just issued a telegram to the directors of the Departments of Education and Training from Ha Tinh to Quang Ngai, requesting them to proactively deploy response plans for storm No. 12 (Fengshen).

According to the dispatch, localities need to ensure the safety of students, teachers and education managers. Localities must also proactively switch to online teaching or postpone school schedules when the weather is complicated.

The Minister also requested localities to review and strengthen school facilities, especially remote schools, remote areas, and areas at high risk of landslides or flooding.

Schools must plan to move equipment, records, textbooks, desks and chairs to safe places to minimize damage to property and educational infrastructure when the storm hits.

According to the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting, at 4:00 a.m. on October 21, the center of storm No. 12 Fengshen was about 200 km northeast of Hoang Sa special zone. The strongest wind near the center of the storm was level 9-10 (75-102 km/h), gusting to level 12. The storm moved westward at a speed of about 20 km/h.

It is forecasted that by 4am on October 22, storm No. 12 Fengshen in the sea northwest of Hoang Sa special zone will change direction to West Southwest, move slowly, travel 10-15km per hour and maintain intensity of level 9-10, gust level 12.

At about 4:00 a.m. on October 23, storm No. 12 Fengshen in the coastal waters of Hue City - Quang Ngai, changed direction to the Southwest, speed about 10km/h, likely gradually weakening into a tropical depression with intensity of level 6, gusting to level 8.
