Technology opens doors to connecting travelers

According to many travel businesses, digital transformation is becoming a powerful tool to help Can Tho tourism reach domestic and foreign tourists. Building a centralized data system allows units to better manage the flow of visitors, make effective forecasts and coordination, limit overload and improve service quality.

Technology not only improves management, but also plays an important role in enhancing the tourist experience. From mobile applications, online payments to service rating systems, tourists can now easily access information, make appropriate choices and receive instant feedback on service quality.

Mr. Nguyen Thanh Tu, a tourist from An Giang province, said: “With just a smartphone, I can find out all the information about the destination through the tourism portal, application or website. I can even experience the trip in advance thanks to VR technology that some units have applied. Technology makes tourism more flexible and interesting.”

Sharing the same opinion, Ms. Le Thi Ngoc Cham, a tourist from Dong Thap province, shared her travel experience in Can Tho, leaving many impressions from the modern accommodation system to the unique river tourism: "It is difficult to find a place with a typical river space like Can Tho. When services are digitized, searching, booking tours or choosing itineraries becomes easier."

The digitalization trend has been grasped by many businesses in the industry early. Mr. Le Dinh Minh Thy, Director of Vietravel Can Tho branch, said that the unit has started selling tours online since 2006 and continuously upgraded its technology infrastructure. Currently, Vietravel's mobile application allows customers to look up tours, learn about new destinations, and make online payments in just a few steps. "Digital transformation is no longer an option, but an inevitable trend to improve operational efficiency and bring the best experience to customers," he emphasized.

In addition to businesses, technology platform providers also actively participate. Representative of VNPT Can Tho Information Technology Center, Ms. Pham Thi Cam Nhung, assessed that digital transformation in tourism does not only stop at applying new technology but is also a long-term development strategy, linking business activities with cultural preservation and local economic development.

Can Tho currently owns a tourism portal and smart tourism application, allowing users to access rich data on destinations, accommodation facilities, digital maps and virtual reality experiences. This is considered an important platform to promote smart tourism in the city.

Towards a smart tourism ecosystem

According to a representative of VNPT Can Tho, to maximize the effectiveness of digital transformation, the city needs to aim for a regional tourism system. Building a centralized tourism portal, connecting with provinces in the Mekong Delta will help create a synchronous data warehouse, supporting tourists to access information faster and more conveniently.

At the same time, businesses are recommended to increase the application of technology such as smart booking and tour systems, digital maps, virtual tour guides, and technology-based augmented reality experiences.

Coordination between the government and businesses will form a favorable policy corridor, creating motivation for businesses to boldly invest in service infrastructure, thereby enhancing the attractiveness of Can Tho in particular and the Mekong Delta in general.

According to the Can Tho Tourism Association, despite its rich and diverse resources, tourism in the Mekong Delta still faces a number of limitations: lack of highlights in products, low return rates, short stays and low spending. These are factors that have prevented the region from making a strong breakthrough despite its potential.

In the context of fierce competition between destinations, digital transformation is considered the key to help Mekong Delta tourism upgrade service quality, expand global customer reach and enhance experiences - a decisive factor in retaining tourists.

According to the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Can Tho city, in the first 10 months of 2025, the city welcomed nearly 10 million visitors, including more than 4.5 million overnight guests, bringing in revenue of more than VND8,670 billion.

This growth comes not only from the number of visitors but also thanks to strong media effects, especially from digital platforms, helping Can Tho appear more and more densely on the national and international tourism map.

With great potential and determination for digital transformation, Can Tho is getting closer to the goal of building a smart tourism ecosystem, where technology provides maximum support for tourists, businesses and management agencies.

From digitalizing data, developing smart tourism applications, to regional connectivity and enhancing business competitiveness, Can Tho tourism industry is opening up many breakthrough opportunities in the coming time.
